Plating questions (nickel etc)

Can anyone advise on which plating type is appropriate for interior decorative/display items please? I was under the impression that nickel plating was the least expensive and commonly used in home interiors at a guess of about 20microns or thereabouts?

I've seen a finish which has the very slightest yellow tint to it rather than a pure bright chrome. Was that likely to be nickel or zinc-nickel or somethig else? Anyone like to give me a few pointers on the comparative costs of common platings please?

It depends again on size and intended use. If it is subjected to heat etc.. You have probably seen something called Chromate as the coating, however you can spec how "yellow" it is with the right supplier.
