Hi guys,

I've had an utter nightmare with Three recently (the last two years) so i have gone back to Vodafone. Just wondering if anyone knows the timescale from PAC issue to number ported and operating correctly?

Generally it should be sorted within 24 hours once Vodafone have your PAC. Have you already made the leap? Vodafone signal seems to be ste now, years ago they used to be good but I wouldn't touch them. Either EE or O2 for me.

Thanks. Everywhere I need it I find the opposite... Guess that's just how it is. Three have allowed some fairly hefty breaches to my account whereas Vodafone instantly asked for secure passwords etc instead of using electoral role information to secure an account

Ive just given up on 3, ever since the at home service came out the service abroad has been utterly st, not one country has youtube or whatsapp or maps worked, unless you pay the £5 for a day pass, thats only in countries that are not at home as well, took me 45minutes to get to speak to some one to get the code to leave, was getting very pissed off with them in the end. The wifes only me took 25 minutes to get the code. both came through in minutes.

Exactly the same as my experience. Even the guy on the end of the phone who's job it seemed was to convince me not to leave said "fair enough" I'll text you your PAC

I had that when I said I was leaving due to poor signal, he had nothing to say except "maybe try us again at some point in the future"

I'm a total 3 convert having been through all of the major networks.

Roaming in the USA etc. has been seamless.

My 3G connection at home comes down at around 25MBPS which is quite astounding.

It was total pap years ago though.

When you say they have allowed some hefty breaches to your account, that is exactly the kind of issues my mate has had with vodafone. I would never go near them with a barge pole after the multiple times they have let his ex ring up and access his account/order phones etc. Even after the first time it was a full on fraud case and he told them someone would try ringing up to be him, and they still accepted her excuses and let her access his account.

UPDATE: Still waiting on a transfer. If you ask after 1700hrs on a weekday they don't actually transfer you within 24hrs due to the time it takes three to hand over the number. As such it should be done by 1600hrs tomorrow.

Literally made this jump last week. Never had an issue with 3, but their contracts are too pricey these days so made the jump to Vodafone.

Anyway; I called up 3 last Saturday morning and after an hour of 'please don't go/sales pitch', they had text me my PAC within 10 minutes. Had my new Vodafone contract by 3pm and sent a request online for a number switch just after; my number was transferred over by 1pm on the Tuesday.

Apparently they don't switch numbers over at the weekend and generally give you a switch time (usually between 11am and 4pm) two days after you've submitted the request. You should get a text with the switch over time.

I've tended to find O2 coverage nothing like as good as Vodafone (partner is on O2), which is surprising as they share network stations (Vodafone handles one half of the country, O2 the other half) - effectively the same network footprint.

AFAIK the PAC codes get loaded up on the 1st weekday by your new company, then the transfer gets done at some stage during the next weekday.

Took nearly a week for my move from three to vodafone to get sorted out. Went in store on a Friday before bank holiday, had to wait until Wednesday before they finally agreed the salesgirl had messed it up, So following Friday it ported. Signal is much the same as three but is definitely slower than it was with three. Three didn't have the phone I wanted at the time
