I would think there would be more than a few referendums arranged PDQ.....they may just as well drop the whole EU project thing and go back to their Iron and Steel agreement

Is that the original"agreement" whereby Germany made the steel and the French helped themselves to all of it? hehe

Good instead of trying to drag nations into it through little carrots and rewards or force let the ones who want in sign up and get started, the rest of us can get on with your trade deals and co-operation. This is what I said awhile ago needed to happen.

Quite

To be honest I think they'd have had an easier time if they just came out with "This is what we want to achieve, this is our plan, this is how were going to do it and here are the benefits you can look forward to. Who's in?"

Instead they've gone about it in this under hand way of cozzying up to people, get them in then ride roughshod over them with death by a 1000 cuts style creeping bureaucracy.

Yes little trinkets like universal charging (i.e. everything has a mini-USB, stops manufacturers having to include wall warts and cables with everything), capped roaming charges, being hot on anti-competitive practices (to outsiders at least), banning high power, inefficient motors in vacuum cleaners, vehicle emissions etc etc are all well and good and show that beneath it all there is some common sense flowing. But its not enough to make up for the sly power and control grabs by the cloying bunch of authoritarians heading it all up (Juncker, the Kommisars et al).

Just come out with it and see who wants it. Likely it won't be as big as the current 27-28 member states but equally I think trying to meld that many countries and cultures together with the view to adding more in the form of Turkey is just something that sounds nice on paper, but is practically impossible. Like some kind of mutant super committee, absolutely nothing would get done because you'd never reach proper agreement on anything.
