The QC is correct.

Democracy is more than just totting up numbers. The Nazis loved using referenda, principally because it is quite easy to whip up nationalist fervour for one vote.

Referenda are the device of "demagogues and dictators" - a phrase borrowed by Margaret Thatcher no less.

This is not over.

The majority of MPs are remain. They should do their job & govern. IE rip up the X factor vote, that was swayed by outright self confessed lies from the Clueless Brexit lot..

In what way did all citizens of voting age not have the opportunity to vote?
For example I am a British national, born and bred but as I haven't lived in the UK for over 15 years I was barred from voting in the referendum.

My brother in Australia, with dual nationality, voted though as he's only been there for 12 years.
My son was born in North Yorkshire but now lives in NZ (has done for 16 years) so no vote for him either.
Mind you he probably wouldn't have voted as he's only 20 so is unlikely to even remember living here.

That is a good argument for not having a referendum in the first place.

Different situation now, when the majority of MPs will be hoping to be re-elected by pro-Brexit voters.

Especially if there's to be a GE in the near future.

Absolutely this; time for the politicians to show some backbone and say "Actually, no. Parliament will decide this, as per our country's constitution. If you don't like our decision, you are welcome to vote us out of office in May 2020"

Do these same citizens abroad get a vote in a General Election? (genuine question!)

To be honest no idea but I suspect not.

Thus losing the last ounce of credibility our democracy has. Political suicide for all involved.

Just checked - no. There is a residency requirement.

Good idea throw a way democracy and risk civil unrest and the MPs being voted out at the next GE

No they wouldn't. We would still have the mandate to exit and that will be there till we do.
The EU don't want us to leave so it would be a useful tool for negotiation in future even if it is a bit like bringing a loaded gun to the negotiating table.

Just like you'd welcome back your cheating wife, of course. That'd be fine, no long-term problems. You're mental. This has always been a strong country, now we have to have strength of convictions and live with the choices - the democratic choices - for better or worse.

Place is full of fking whining weasels.

Agreed. And btw, it has nothing to do with your gonads.

I didn't get the vote but yes if that is truly what they wanted (though it seems not given they had a vote last year)

Yep, we used to be strong enough to lead Europe. Now the people have voted just to lead the UK.

Interesting times ahead.
