I wasn't aware that the only other scientists in the world were in the EU - thanks for that new information...

It seems that neither are those 13 Nobel laureates. I think you and jsf should write them a later. To put their tiny minds at rest and explain to them that world is their oyster. Jsf can tell them what is govt going to do, you can tell them about possibilities to actually work with other scientists, now that the shackles of the mean EU are finally gone.

As for the money, I was under impression that that money is earmarked for NHS? I think there was a bus or something, could be wrong.
fk me, someone really ought to tell the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia, South America, Russia, in fact the rest of the world, that the only real scientists are alive and well and living in the EU, and anyone who isn't in the EU can't be doing real science because it isn't EU funded science, so it doesn't count, because the EU said so.

Are you really suggesting that if Johnny English rocks up to a group of EU funded researchers and says "I know it's now euros, but I've got x million of £££s funding" they're going to tell him to do one? Seriously?

Yes there's a period of adjustment, then it'll be back to bau. Please don't believe everything you hear on Radio 4.

At risk of cross-posting, Markit published their Purchasing Manager's Index today showing a dramatic reduction in planned business spending. First major bit of UK economic data released since the referendum and it is predictably worrying.

Yes, I saw that on the BBC. It looks like the survey was taken in the week before and the week after the Referendum too place - a time of massive uncertainty. I would not want to dismiss this report, but equally I would be inclined to look to the next one in order to get what might be a more representative picture

I'm not sure of your point. I've linked opinion of Nobel laureates, which are obviously people at the top of their respective fields, and their opinion on the subject. I'm sure that they are perfectly aware that EU<>World.

I have no idea what they are going to say. I also linked report from Swiss scientist saying pretty much the same, that they have been excluding from number of projects pretty much on the basis of their referendum on FOM and uncertainty that it caused.

Not sure of relevance of R4, all the links are from non-BBC sources.

Would it be too early to do it now? laugh

Data was collected 12th to 21st July. Have a look at the Markit press release.

But I agree that we need to wait and see how sentiment develops. Let us hope it bounces back.

So, those scientists saying how affected they are, how ridiculous the whole thing is, they are just mistaken? Can't see the big picture?
Hmm, opinion of 13 Nobel laureates (amongst many others) vs opinion of jsf. You know, Gurdon, Nurse, Higgs what do they know.
plenty issues surrounding eu science funding ,particularly the big projects. https://www.theguardian.com/higher-education-netwo... "“Take the 100,000 Genome Project. It’s a fabulous waste of money because it is hypothesis free – they’re not testing something,” he says.

looking at the climate science debate it is quite obvious serious amounts of money have been spent with no tangible results . maybe having to focus on putting together sound research proposals if budgets are squeezed will generate a bit more bang for the buck of those paying the research bill .

I'd say shorties. But that would be inappropriate.

The width would be?

How about gross maximum weight? Would 'gross' cover it?

20" as standard across your shoulders.

We're doing a lot of bigger ones these days!!

Guaranteed weight up to 25 stones un-strengthened or 40 stones strengthened.

Thanks for the interest laugh
