I was browsing through one of the classic cars magazines recently (could've been Classic & Sportscar), and in this edition there was an article about a U.S E-Type that was owned by a chap who said the imported car was owned by several well-known people over the years, one of those being Steve McQueen. I'm aware of McQueen's collection of various classics like the XKSS, Ferrari's etc, but I had never heard of him owning an E-Type before. Doing a search came up with nothing, couldn't find any photos or info of him owning one. In the article it shows a small B&W photo of McQueen posing in this E-Type (which I think was a roadster).

It's surprising how many celebs owned an E-Type, some are common knowledge like George Best, but others like Adam Faith and Nigel Havers aren't so and seem to be hard to come by with regards to any info or photos about their E-Types.

I read that same article it was classic cars. Wasn't the picture with him sat in the car when it was owned by another person, but he posed for the picture for the new owner. Its amazing how many did own E-types, much like with the mini coopers s

This. The association is simply that McQueen had once sat in the seat of the car. Not owned it.

Sometime in the future, the myth will become the legend, and values will rocket.

George Harrison had one in '64, crashed it and bought a DB5 later on. John Barry had a white FHC, Peter Sellers had a dark blue one which appeared on the TV news as he arrived at hospital when Britt Ekland was pregnant in '65. Richard Burton had one too I think.

A bit like the photo of him in a Cobra (which again, IIRC he never owned)

Sinatra was an early owner wasn't he?

Badgered them relentlessly until he got one.....or sent a couple of his friends round.

What a shame that tool owns one!

Mind you this looks very much the same as the one in the other thread which hit the lamppost...sure it isn't...but...

Lovely gaff, just up the road from me! Countless Jag promo shots were taken at that spot.

Keith Richards had a V12 roadster when The Stones moved to the south of France in '71.

So McQueen never owned one, which I suppose was obvious as I've never heard anyone talk about him owning one. I'm aware of most of the people mentioned as owning one (inc those photos), but some like Sellers I've heard owned one but never seen photos of him with it. Also, there was the chap (can't remember name) who was in the Hattie Jacques dramatisation who was seen driving one in a few scenes, although the model was obviously of the wrong time period (a series 2 2+2 in 1961?, hmmm), but I couldn't find any reference to the real life person having owned one.

Didn't know George Harrison crashed his and bought a DB5, I know McCartney owned an Aston though.
