Looking at the classifieds (as you do) and I note prices are on the rise. Good CV8s being advertised for £10k - £12k. Are these hopeful owners or are they actually selling at these sorts of prices?

Looking at current prices seems I bought just at the right time. Got my 5.7 VXR which had around 40k on the clock for £8200 a few years ago. Was completely standard then as well. Not majorly modified now, poly bushes, AP's, rip shifter and a cat back.

want to get paint work done at some point it's on the list of jobs to do. Along with new dampers and springs. An a wheel refurb.

Seeing similar cars with 100k on them going for £10-£12k without AP's etc means I shouldn't lose any more if I do decidse to sell it on.

I would say for a reasonable car with mods 10 to 12 Is a good price , a lot of cars are modified , not all by me but mines had around 12 k of mods added to it , I appreciate with mods you don't always get your money back , but the more some one spends on good mods the less you need to do to a car and spend yourself , a car is what you feel worth paying for

Its summer (when it stops raining) people are using them. less cars = slightly more buoyant prices as less available in the market. come winter more usually come up for sale/stick around longer = prices drop to reflect it. Supply and demand. Summer sell. Winter buy.

For the past few years I cannot remember CV8s going above £8k and about 5 years ago they want down to about £6k, hence my question. Not planning on selling but would be nice to see prices gradually rise.

If the robbing bd traders keep over pricing them privateers will fall probably 2/3 k behind so I think the market is on the high side at the mo

Still some cheap cars about though , that old red Vxr8 high mileage car did 10 k

I remember a few years back paying 10k for spud monkeys car & 5 for a vxr ls2

I recently sold my Monaro VXR for just short of the asking price but it did take a while to sell.

The demand for decent Monaros is still strong. I sell all the ones I get asap as over 50% don't even get advertised as have people for them

BTW - most of the over priced ones recently have mainly been private sales not dealers wink

I was offered £9k for my (modified) CV8 in January but decided not to sell as the deal I'd agreed on a VXR8 fell through... Buyers weren't lining up at my asking price (£9.5k) but there was enough interest even though it was just after Christmas.

My car's got about £10k of modifications and the bodywork and chassis are in good condition, so from my experience I think a private seller could reasonably ask up to £10k for a good CV8 (big power builds aside).

By complete fluke I spotted my old Monaro for auction at Brightwells last week, guide price £7000-£9000. I sold it to a chap last year for IIRC £8000. It was unsold. A bargain for someone IMO because (at least when I sold) it was right up together, Vauxhall plus two owner car with, most servicing by MF and nothing skimped on. I was almost tempted to bid myself but I've done my time on Monaros.

Probably still being sold at a loss due to what they have bought it for off whichever trader at a ridiculous margin & I know the mark ups

Monaros & r8's are proving popular currently I've a dealer local to me that's had a few recently the 6.0 vxr's seem to be the easiest ones to shift as the 4 he has had have all gone pretty much instantly & for strong money too
He has also just sold a nice cv8 but that took a little longer to shift

£18K+ is a lot for a stock car, even if it has 13,000 on the clock shoot

True, it *might* be more reliable, but there's a few leggy VXRs out there for around £11K. Given a gearbox can be refurbished for less than a grand and brand new engines are just over £5K, I can't see why you'd pay such a hefty premium.

Judging purely by my own car (40k mile 2004], expect to replace the rubber parts on age alone.

It is a lot of money but I can see the attraction.

What would this refurbishment involve and whereabouts is this service provided?

I know the 'fish do gearbox work, just curious really?

My second gear doesn't particularly like being shifted down into from a higher gear sometimes. I'd really love to rebuild it myself and stick lots of nice Tick parts in there, but I think one has to be realistic with when / if I'd ever actually get that done...
