Interesting, Eastwood & Hanks? Smells like Oscar bait!

I don't remember much controversy over the "crash" though, did he really get blamed?

Looks great.

Think there is some artistic license with the "drama". Seems like the NTSB supported his decision to ditch in the river and when they tested it in a sim to see if pilots could have made it back to the airport it was 50/50.

Has Tom Hanks ever made a bad film?

Eastwood has history for embelishing drama (and it is a film after all)

In invictus for example South Africa were portrayed as Under-dogs, when they were one of the finest teams in the world at the time (handed out numerous drubbings between coming in from the wilderness and the 95 world cup)

Amazing simulation of the ditching along with real time data/tower chat. The whole thing is over in minutes.

As I recall, as well, it wasn't so much that he was "blamed" but it was the case that he was plastered all over the news and hailed a hero by all of the big names in the American media, all the way up to Obama, before the NTSB had had a chance to catch their breath and actually investigate the circumstances of the crash.

in the end, yes, they supported him and that he had no other option to land as he did but it was a hugely risky manoeuvre to attempt and there is an amount of luck alongside his experience and skill that meant nobody was killed in the crash.

Yes, good film.

Now, the remake of 'The Ladykillers', on the other hand...

I'm sure the First Officer feels a bit miffed. He never gets a mention

This will be lovely "human" story. Both Hanks and Eastwood are good at this sort of thing. I expect it will deserve an Oscar based on their previous work.

hanks does these roles so well...
if you havent seen it yet then also do see Bridge Of Spies.

Agreed with above - what a landing, and he kept his cool, and decision making spot on.
