Farage stands down as UKIP leader
Discussion
He's stood down has he? Or has UKIP just ceased to be necessary and he's jumping the ship before it sinks? Will he be grovelling for a seat in the Lords now?
What'll happen to Carswell? Looks like he's ended up holding the baby, the baby with a rather smelly bottom and no wet wipes or fresh nappies to be seen.

Interestingly there was a meeting of the UKIP National Executive Council today and last week Farage was talking about the possibility of expelling Carswell. What'll happen to Carswell? Farage might have gone for the reason he says (ambition achieved) but I know that UKIP were struggling for cash after last years election as their backers were giving money to the leave campaign rather than to them so he could be seeing the writing on the wall.
Carswell will be able to carry on as an independent. He is very popular in his constituency and I don't think party affiliation would make any difference to his chances of being re-elected.
