A military coup in Turkey is really what the world needs right now.

Lots of interesting footage kicking about.

The military always used to have a strong role in keeping the country secular and stable and it might be someone has decided it's time for a reset.

Wrong to call it a coup, but it is an attempt as such...? Can't see much on the main channels..

I agree; a lot of crap to search through but fascinating to read.

What's the short term plan in a situation like this!?

Could be the result of a surprise visit to Ankara by the new Foreign Secretary to promote diplomacy & reconciliation with the Turkish authorities.

Someone who would uphold the modern secular fundamentals that "modern" Turkey was built on rather than some Islamist dhead that wants to take country back to the dark ages.

Sounds like they're fed up of migrants walking across and bombers in their cities. So stepping in to do something about it. This won't end well.

But if the coup attempt has a religious bent?

I know things are not good with him in charge.

A direct result of Boris' recent award winning limerick perhaps?

"There was a young fellow from Ankara
Who was a terrific w*nkerer
Till he sowed his wild oats
With the help of a goat
But he didn’t even stop to thankera."
