If they're successful, let us just hope that the replacement leader isn't worse than Erdogan.

As I understand it (I was in Istanbul last year and I'm currently whatsapping with Turkish friends) the military are very pro secular and Erdogan isn't. I think they may have had enough of him and his palace building.

That goes all the way back to Ataturk. The military is a big part of the secular establishment. The people, especially in the provinces, are more conservative and religious. That is where Erdogan's support is.

Is this how we Islamify Europe?

Every Muslim country just starts going to war - and the population pops on a pair of good quality walking shoes - and speed walks into the EU?

The military are most likely going against the Islamic stance of Erdogan.

Thomas Cook flight seems to be landing as planned at Dalaman (origin Stanstead).

If it were me on that flight I might want them to divert to Cyprus!

There is a Gatwick flight behind it.

'Dave' was Turkey's head cheer leader for them getting in. He said as much and they believed him. Perfectly reasonable to take him at his word.

He then changed his mind because it suited his political purposes.

Do you know anything at all about Turkish history? The military, who may or may not be engaging in a coup, are part of the establishment that has securalised the country over the last century. If there is a coup, which I hope not, it ought to make Turkey less "muslim", if anything, and as if that is the main issue, which it isn't.

Which is why we, and the EU, needs to stop people coming in. End of!

Bit off topic but regarding footwear and Muslims!

My grandfather was out in Israel during the six day war. He told me that when the Arabs decided to retreat, they removed their boots. Those who were captured claimed they had done so because they could run faster.

There was never any way that Turkey was getting into the EU in the near future, there is something like 35 criteria that need to be satisfied and they only meet one at the moment (probably none now). It was pure and simple scaremongering.
