In 2015/2016 in England and Wales (58.7m inhabitants combined), there were seven incidents where firearms were inlvolved, leading to three fatalities.
It's not comparable though, since police there is not normally armed there.

The comparison to a country where police is routinely carrying weapons seems to be more appropriate for the comparison with the US (325m inhabitants).
In 2015, Germany (82m inhabitants in 2015) police fired 101 rounds, of which 48 were warning shots. Of the 53 shots that were aimed, 13 missed, 40 hit; were the latter caused injuries in 22 cases and death in 10 cases.

Location armed police civilian guns per capita %age of pop killed factor
US yes 1.2 0.000296% 59.2
England and Wales no 0.046 0.000005% 1
Germany yes 0.196 0.000012% 2.4

The chance of getting killed by police before arrest is approximately 60 times higher in the US of A than in England and Wales.
Thanks for the stats.

When you say there were 7 incidents in E&W where firearms were involved, I assume you mean 7 incidents where police discharged a firearm.

Any stats for the number of shootings in E&W in total (ie not involving police firearms officers) ?

To the nearest thousand will do wink
What relevance does that have when we're discussing shootings by police?

Because in comparison to the number of firearms on the streets and the number of shootings in E&W, police shootings are remarkably few and far between.

We're specifically discussing shootings by the police here though, not shootings in general.

The stats are pretty clear that US police shoot way more people than pretty much any other Western country.

So the chance of being shot by the police is miniscule compared to countries which routinely arm the police.

Happy with that conclusion

At least some of these idiots gets charged and convicted....

“A Texas jury has found a white former police officer who shot a black neighbour in his own apartment guilty of murder.
Amber Guyger fatally shot Botham Jean in his apartment in Dallas on 6 September last year. The 31-year-old claimed she parked on the wrong floor of the complex by mistake and entered Jean’s flat, thinking it was hers.
In emotional testimony last week, Guyger said she shot the 26-year-old because she thought he was an intruder and feared for her life. She was fired from the Dallas police department and indicted on a murder charge.”
