My brother was in the army during the troubles- never carried any weapons off duty. A Brother of a bloke I worked with was in the RUC - carried his issue pistol everywhere he went - on or off duty.

I remember as a member of the CCF one of the boarders from NI complaining that he wasn't allowed to change out of uniform after camp and that he was expected to travel home in full army uniform (he changed on the ferry IIRC). So concealed carry, nope don't see that at all.

Have to say I'm impressed by this serviceman's recovery from being caught out (partly because of his self inflicted sensory depravation- iPod) to recover and gain the upper hand with the old Glasgow Kiss (head butt) I think is impressive. Chapeau that man! Makes me proud to be British goddamit.
