Looking at one or the other, now have a dog in the family so need either a hatchback or estate. Looking at newish car so fancy the performance version of either car, 605ps one
thing is dog will go in the back of the rs7 hatch, so why would I go with the avant?...in many ways avant looks very good styling wise & in some ways more practical, but how often do I need a full estate?
obviously both 4 wheel drive which I want also. Did look at Merc C63 estate, but styling not floating my boat & not 4 wheel drive, which is useful in winter when you live up a farmers lane etc

So which should I go for RS6 Avant or RS7?...cannot decide

Well, I personally don't like the styling of the RS7, so go for the RS6.
I love mine.

Yes I agree I think, I will have a mooch round the audi garage at weekend, but do agree so far I think the RS6 avant styling pips the RS7, flared arches & more purposeful looking....

I like the RS7 looks and I do not see any reason why it could be less impressive to drive than the RS6...but I can't imagine myself looking for one. I don't see the point fo these high performance low roof coupè/sedan fusions like the M6 GC, RS7, CLS AMG, Panamera...

So RS6

6 the much better looking - and practical car. Less depreciation too.

Totally agree. The "5" makes the better 4 door coupe IMO. Rear of the "7" looks unfinished.

RS6, I just love the styling. The big arches just make me smile when I look at one from behind.

Another vote for the RS6, desperately want one but every time I think of buying one I cant justify the extra cost / fuel upgrade from my A6 BiTDI avant !!

I need to learn some man maths !!

I am putting in a shout for RS7 seeing the thread lacks balance biggrin

Just picked one up a couple of weeks back, having had a Panamera Diesel for 9 months prior, which followed on from a 991 Turbo and a Maserati Granturismo.

The RS7 has a bit of all of those in it - performance, noise, comfort when needed etc. I am sure someone will say the RS6 does the same and it probably does - I just prefer the styling of the RS7. I haven't ever fancied an estate, but don't like a 2 seater either, so the big four door coupe types really appeal to me. Each to their own I suppose!

Pic of mine in case it helps, good luck whichever you go for, isn't really a bad decision to make in this choice!

Sorry to hijack thread but how did the panamera / granturismo and rs7 compare ? Did you do many miles in them ?

I ask as theses are my choices when my a6 expires !

Had a granturismo 4.2 at launch and 6 997's !!

Thanks

I went from Panamera Turbo to RS6.

Audi is quicker but handling is dreadful compared with the Porsche.

If you want a barge that really does handle the Panny is the one.

Granturismo was great in some respects and incredibly annoying in others! Amazing looking (have had 2, 1 in white with all carbon bits etc and one black one black), amazing sound. Fun to drive at low speeds too, it is an occasion every time you drive it. Downsides are interior is incredibly dated, it hasn't changed since 2007. Tech is way behind the times, dreadful sat nav and audio. Some would say the performance is an issue guess it depends how you'd drive it - it doesn't need to be hooned around to be fun and it is a grand tourer not a sports car. Flip side is an Audi SQ5 would give it a good run for its money, so it comes down to how you feel about performance and how you'd get on with going from high tech in an Audi, to something very dated. Also I had loads of electrical gremlins in mine - warning lights most times I drove it (passenger airbag, electric handbrake stuck on, go to dealer etc). That being said I only drove it weekends and most people say it does need to be driven or kept on a trickle charger...

Pan was supremely comfortable, loads of road prescence. The size can be an issue, I had 3 dints where people either drove into it or opened doors into it in car parks. Impressive to accumulate those in 9 months when 10 years of driving hadn't seen me ever pick up one, so it has to be down to the size of the thing I suppose! Tech is light years ahead of the Masser. I was doing 20 miles a day in the Pan and it felt like a waste of the diesel engine, as in it would be a great car for travelling long distances in just due to what an amazing place to sit it is. Also I know I am in the minority, but I liked the looks. I only got rid due to not wanting to take a massive hit on the value of it when the new one lands in showrooms in a few months time.

RS7 is a great combination of the 2. It has the comfort of the Pan in comfort mode, it doesn't feel quite as big and feels much lighter to drive, whilst it also has the tech of the Pan but a great soundtrack like the Mas, and performance to blow both out the water (obviously unfair comparing an RS7 to a Pan diesel though, although the chap above has said his RS6 is quicker than a Pan Turbo). Of the 3 exact cars I would choose the RS7 every time, but I appreciate others might have more patience with some of the Maserati downsides than I would. I would however definitely take a Pan Turbo over the RS7 as the Porsche just feels a bit more special. Plus it would mean never having to deal with my local Audi dealership ever again mad

Will be back in the Pan when someone has paid £30k of depreciation on the new ones for me, ideally in Turbo format beer

Perhaps slightly off piste...but if you compare the GT to a period (i.e. 07/08 considering when it was released) Audi or even Aston, it's actually not that archaic smile Not saying it's the last word, and it's typical Italian in its ergonomics, but equally it's not that bad.

And having just moved into one from a V8 Vantage, I don't really understand those who note the interior is dated. Familiarity possibly breeding contempt? Sure, it doesn't have a touch screen protruding out of the dash. But I'm not sure that type of "modern" is an improvement. It also benefits significantly if spec'd with alcantara and carbon IMO.

An interesting thread as it turns out in the end!

Got to be an RS6 avant plus I think, childishly like the 605 bhp as much as I am sure it wont feel that much different to the 560 model, but as I say being that childish I like the sound of 605 bhp more !!
think styling wise it has it for me as well, the flared arches & some lovely spec ones, so it sits & looks well for an estate, struggle a bit with the RS7 styling, and to be honest having a dog now & a keen cyclist , the estate bit will be more useful.
Cannot get on with the panamera styling at all I am afraid so that's a no go anyway
Used to have a maser GT, lovely sounding car, and I agree I don't think its that dated inside, but agree I think the stradale interior is far nicer with the alcantara etc, the normal dash & door cards in the GT are a bit 'plastic' for an Italian beast, that's the bit that annoyed me. Sounded epic & drove nicely, yes infotainment system was a little 'old' but GT still a stylish car that looks good in & out in my eyes
anyway thanks ...RS6 it is....
