There's good piece in today's Telegraph about the fact that's easy for angry people to hang their violence onto a convenient political/religious cause. When their own anger is actually the important thing.

So you still think it's reasonable to assume any future attack in Germany is by IS until proven otherwise? Surely a more rational response is to not assume any one group is behind it and to wait for evidence?
Of course it's reasonable, because Islamic terrorists are the ones predominantly carrying out these sort of attacks in recent years. I didn't see the usual handwringers waiting for evidence before jumping to blame far right extremists.

I think the first posts about far right extremists came about several pages after the IS allegations and only came about once the reports of the shooter being white were posted.

Reports on Sky of a knife attack in Stuttgart, it seems like the EU has some serious problems - its almost getting like Israel now with what seems like weekly attacks.

To be fair, if people were speculating the perpetrators were Morris Dancers or trainspotters, you might say that was unreasonable, but given recent events, speculation is understandable, even if apportioning blame before facts are known is not.

There are lots of angry disenfranchised people around. I think that each episode makes the next one more likely.

I can see this getting very ugly in Germany.....the potential backlash from the far-right there is a very real possibility.

It's the usual twisted murderers that got 'swiftly back on track'.

Don't blame us for discussing it.....

I think the press need to look at themselves with how all this is being reported.

We have a few nut-jobs who have seen other nut-jobs achieve notoriety, so are now motivating themselves to get out there and get themselves noticed.

Did anyone here comment on the German nurse who was convicted last month of multiple murders? - I'm guessing they didn't, even though his death count is more than all the recent attacks added together.

Knife murder in a kebab shop in a small German town - a month ago, it would't even have been on our radar.

Do you suggest they don't let us know any of it?

I'm suggesting that 24/7 reporting, speculation, live feeds, etc., are feeding nut-jobs with the desire to go and and make a name for themselves.

Report it, by all means, but don't make it a big story. The desire to copy will lessen if there's little publicity in doing it.

We don't report every murder in Germany on UK television or in UK newspapers - why feed the nut-jobs now?
