I picked this up on Saturday, very happy me! I've wanted a 3 door 309 GTi for ages now and unlike 99% of other people I prefer them to the 205, luckily they don't command as much money as the 205. I never owned a 309 or 205 in my youth but plenty of friends did and I knew it was one that needed ticking off the list so I couldn't believe it when this one came up for sale Friday afternoon on ebay, I had to own it!

It's only covered 84k with a wealth of history and was restored back in 2014. It still looks as clean now as it does in the photos taken straight after the resto was finished. There's a thread on the 309 forum showing the restoration but as yet I've not had chance to read through it, I will do though. Plan is to enjoy it while the sun is shining and take it to a few local car shows then it'll get wrapped up for the winter.

Here's a couple of pictures from this weekend and one that I think is from PugFest where it came 2nd in the Concourse comp in 2014.

Looks fantastic.

I've always had a soft spot for a 309 GTI.

very nice. prefer the 309 too. I thought all the GTI's had a red stripe in the bumpers / side trim ?

Great looking car, a real rarity. My mother had a 1.6 GLX back in the day that I put a few miles on in my late teens. Apart from not being able to change gear when the weather was cold it was brilliant, especially once I had mastered the worlds sharpest brakes.biggrin
Good luck with it.

Great!

I had a red 91(K) for my first car about 15 years ago. I have not ever seen a 309 in that shade of blue and always admired it on the 205 GTIs.

Very nice OP. Miami Blue?

I'm very biased when it comes to these...

I too prefer the 309gti to the 205 so you're not alone OP! Your blue car and the red one above look mint cool

Slightly off topic but I know Autocar built a green one for track days and sprints that I saw at Shelsley a good few years ago now, never read anything about it though..

Saw that on eBay - was on at £5500 with best offer.

Bit of a bargain in today's market really.

Thanks all. The colour is Miami blue and I'm not sure about the red inserts in the bumpers, someone will know?!?!

I have noticed a couple of drops of oil on the drive today though after it's been in the same place for over 24 hours cry Looks like a visit to the garage to get that diagnosed and sorted.

That looks in great condition, lovely motor. I found that it's much smaller inside than I remember my friends cars being and the wing mirrors are awful, they seem too magnified. I don't mind though smile Yes it's Miami blue.

Looks great, I had a phase 2 but mine was a 5 door. I preferred these over the 205 too (I have had 205's).

I used to love the sound the sunroof made when you closed it when moving!

2 cars I wish I'd kept: my 309GTi and 405Mi16x4

Keep the photo's and updates coming

Cheers frg! I had a 1.1 GE as my first car and it was much bigger than my mates 205's, Fiesta's and Nova's. It is around the same size as the Escort of the time, they all seem so small now. It was a family car back in the day!

Over the last four years I've done quite a lot of work to it, as well as a full re-spray and rebuilding various bits, I discovered a little bit of bubbling at the rear of the nearside sill a few weeks back and as a result it has had a new rear sill, inner panel and part of the wheel arch replaced. It's due back this week.

Great car OP, love the 309 GTI as I had a phase 1 89 F reg one, keep looking at the GTI's (and they are better than the 205 GTI) but few and far between now, especially to find a decent one.

Brings back fond memories of my H plate gti. I've had both 1.6 and 1.9 205s and always preferred the 309. Both cars in this thread look in stunning condition.
