Hi, just got an old e46 320i SE and the seat belt warning light comes on when you switch the ignition on and then goes out not coming on again if you don't belt up. Is this an MOT fail?

Thanks guys.

No, that's normal I think?

Surely it should come on when you drive away without buckling up?

My E46 doesn't. Never failed an MOT for that, and I don't believe it is a tested item. As long as the belts work as they should you're all good.

Sorry, I just thought that ALL red warning lights had to work.

No need to apologise. The MOT testers manual is available here for you to take a look at should you so wish.

I've had two E39's that did exactly that and neither ever got a mention at MOT time.
