Is the Isle of Wight an "inbred, poor, white ghetto'?

Which North Yorkshire market towns, in your humble opinion, have have inbred, poor ghettos ?However seen as Scarborough has been mentioned. The "Cul de Sac by the coast" has its own issues, mainly in the Eastfield area of the town.

Brighton empties in the morning as the inhabitants head North to either London or Gatwick/Crawley. Evening residents' parking when they all return is chaotic.
Until now the easy commute to London has, mostly, been responsible for the sky-high house prices. The ongoing rail dispute coupled with ever-increasing commuter numbers may have some interesting side effects.

OP yes, leave before dark. It truly is a st hole. The sort of place where if you so much as look at a woman a bloke will start on you for trying to steal one of their women. It's depressing because the island itself is quite pretty and Cowes could be fantastic. As has been pointed out the ferry prices are insane and that stifles the economy.

I went to Brighton at the weekend - couldn't believe the house prices and the state of the place in some areas..... To me the two did not equate!!
Most overrated place in the UK IMO.Expensive for everything, no where to park, crap beach and populated by some of the most pretentious people on earth.
And breath....

The Isle of Wight is a st tip I know I was born there. great place to grow up as a kid back in the 70.s and 80.s
The biggest problem the island has is a brain drain anyone who can dose leave and they are replaced by retiring Londoners forcing up house prices to totally unrealistic levels. These are the very same people who whenever a fixed link is proposed start whining about spoiling the atmosphere of the island. s!

You can mention Moulscoumbe and Whitehawk but there's much more to it than that. The beach isn't sandy . . . so what? It's great.
I don't drive there though.

There's a lot of our coastal towns are drug-riddled stholes underneath the neon lights.
Unfortunately, at some point in the not so distant past, there seems to have been some sort of project to utilise them as scumbag warehouses. In terms of the IoW, I had a break there recently - did see some odd folk, and quite a few oaps in some areas. Newport was a dump with constantly bad traffic, but equally the south and south west were lovely, and the coast road is wonderful (slightly like some of the California coastal highway), but falling into the sea so hasn't got long left!
We had a weekend in IoW recently, a friend has a holiday place so free accommodation.
It's an odd place, some bits seemed really nice but about 30 years behind the times. We had a walk along the beach and found a little cafe, it was a bit 'transport' but the kids were hungry so how bad could it be.
The actual food was ok but it was the choice. They offered sandwiches on sliced bread(not baguettes or god forbid, wraps) and you could choose ham or cheese or if you wanted to go exotic ham AND cheese.

We went to the Isle of Wight last September. Always fancied it and when a really cheap Monday - Friday break turned up on Wowcher (it was £99 for up to 6 people including return ferry with car) in a chalet on a holiday park in Sandown we booked it. Wasn't expecting much, but the accommodation was fine and we really enjoyed the Island. Went everywhere Yarmouth, Sandown, Ventnor, the zoo, along the coast road, Needles leisure park thing, evening out in Ryde to take the little 'un on the old underground train. Had a lovely day on the beach at Duver Point too. I'm not one for foreign holidays as it's too much hassle, so our default holidays are South Devon/Cornwall and days out are seaside resorts in the North West, so Llandudno, Southport, Blackpool if I'm pushed into it so maybe we're blase/immune to the problems!

In a nut shell: yes.
Some areas are very poor and the job market on the Island is small and seasonal. The expensive ferry tickets mean most people can't even think of looking to the mainland for work and commuting. If you have a well paid job you can, otherwise you're stuck. Its very similar to some of the North Yorkshire market towns; people either have plenty of money or none. Theres very little inbtween.
The inbred comments aren't wrong either, the village of Wroxall has a well deserved reputation on the Island. As does the West Wight, which is know to some as banjo country.
What I would like to have seen from the Islands leaders in responce to this was to admit they have an issue, and use it to get more funding. Funding they need. Instead they've gone into full denial mode.
as above same as the 'deep south' of Lincolnshire Boston / Spalding and down towards Norfolk ... Some areas are very poor and the job market on the Island is small and seasonal. Although I do drive here, it's a bit of a 'mare at times but once you know the rat runs you rarely get caught out

It always seems odd when there are these deprived southern coastal areas in the U.K. Like the IOW or Kent or some parts of Devon.
They're on the coast they have great views, the weather is often better than average U.K. Weather, they ought to be fantastic places to live.
but the job market is seasonal and the decent housing stock is either second homes or holiday lets ... They're on the coast they have great views, the weather is often better than average U.K. Weather, they ought to be fantastic places to live.
distances and infrastructure don't help; the london 'commuter belt' comes far further North and East than it goes west but that is thanks to the ECML and MML - there are people who commute into central london from Leicestershire and Grantham who have a quicker journey than people commuting from inside the M25 / the hoem counties ...

Mrs rxe did some work at a place where they looked after the products of multigenerational inbreeding, and the results were not good. Somewhere near Dagenham, apparently the incest capital of Europe. Suffice to say, after three generations of parents shagging their own children, there is not a lot of intellect left.
