Thinks it's about time we started to consider sugar to be addictive and control it's supply (and demand). I'm not nutritional biologist but from what I understand the effect it has on your gut bacteria and the cravings it causes are symptomatic of such.

He says swigging his daily can of Coke and scoffing a white bread tuna and sweetcorn butty.

Indeed. My quality of life is much reduced every time I see Abbopotomus on the telly, can't the government do something about it, a red triangle or similar...

FFS! Eat less, eat less st foods and do some fking exercise!

Just saw some woman on the TV complaining that her doctor said that her kid would only be put on a waiting list for pills or something. Why are we wasting money on this stuff (yes, I know, NHS later life etc.). Just wait for tomorrow when its all about pressures on young people to look like models/anorexics too!
Its not even about doing some exercise. SImply eat less.

You can control maybe 30% of your energy output. The rest is all metabolism and there isn't a huge amount you can do about that (seen a study that showed people slumped in offices have much the same base metabolism as those people from tribes in the jungle that have to hunt their dinner every day. Their base metabolic rate wasn't much different for similar build. Of course the difference is we have 3 square meals a day with plenty of it, they don't).

You can control 100% of what energy you put in your mouth. No brainer to focus on that first.

not terribly scientific reports, but I think they give the gist.

Oddly, I always fancy junk food after reading about someone quitting eating junk food or reading an article about how junk food is bad for you. If people didn't mention it at all, I'd not crave a Big Mac. biggrin
Does anyone really crave McDonald's food?
Well, because bds like you keep reminding me about Big Macs... fortunately, I'm too lazy to drive to the local McD's. If I were less lazy, I'd be a lazy fat bd. I guess being ultra lazy has its plus points.

Edit, just noticed someones posted the same thing earlier, not just me then. smash

I have given up with the fatfights at work. Every week it is another crash diet. This week we are on meal replacement shakes, slimming world was too much effort.

I have left the fatties to it. I used to be fat i lost weight the hard way, diet and exercise. I am sick and tired of giving help and advice to people that is largely ignored. Hey what do i know? fat Brenda lost 2 pounds this week from having protein shakes breakfast and lunch.

Everyone is just looking for an easy option, meal replacements,C9, juiceplus etc.

Sticks.

Recent holiday, visited a waterpark. High number of kids aged 10-12 who were morbidly obese. 15 stone+ All were scoffing crisps, coke, ice cream. You really do have to wonder just wtf is going on in the parents minds. Not much obviously.

Why arent the media being partially held to account for this. The paranoia the tabloids have whipped up about peados etc means that many kids are ferried to and from school, arent allowed out to roam etc.

its great to see so many righteous experts on here, its simple eat less etc etc, however the real problem must be the vested interests, otherwise why not just make it illegal for any business to sell crap food.

Black market burgers anyone?

My daughter; 23, steadily put on weight after the birth of my grandson almost 3 years ago now; she was never a skinny but never had a weight problem until grandson came about, probably a combination of baby weight, always in a rush so unable to eat properly and the burger van outside work.

She has always been one for expensive faddy diets; the quick fix, myself and her boyfriend, who is a head chef and knows his food, have always told her to ditch the faddy diets, watch what you eat, avoid the cakes and burger van, just be sensible with what you eat; her activity levels are already high due to her job and an an active toddler.

Finally after two years of me nagging and many £ hundreds wasted on quick fix diets that don't work, just as we hit summer this year she took my advice; guess what......yep she is losing weight, she found it hard for the first week or two but it is working and it is actually saving her money too, she feels alot better and has more energy too.

It's not rocket science

I call them the permadieters. They're the same people that if you told them you were reading about this moneymaking scheme that involved betting on the horses to make a million in under 6 months, they'd tell you that you're crazy to think it would work.

Eat less and eat correctly, it isn't hard, you can have a Burger, you can have a bacon sarnie, you can have crisps, you can have cheese, but not every single day and not in vast quantities.

Walk to to school, walk to the shops, take the stairs as opposed to the lift.

It ain't hard.

But clearly it is. Otherwise children wouldn't be getting fatter. Banning food adverts on TV would be a great way to start the reversal of bad eating habits.
