For the first time since the cold war, the German government is advising people to stockpile food and water in case of a national emergency

A wee bit strange don't ya think? Or do they have some Intel which points to a clusterfook heading their way?

Or could be that the million plus counting migrants which are mostly young men of fighting age that have come from warzones not helped by the west haven't forgotten and want revenge. Or could be someone wanted to make a news story.

It probably would have been funnier with the correct spelling.

10 days supply of food and water is being recommended.

The reasons given are in case gas and electricity is cut off, or the water system is poisoned.

Happy days. rolleyes

I did read that the general "what to do in an emergency" plan hasn't been updated since 1995, so this could be a poorly handled/sensationalised bit of common sense. I'm sure ze Germans get flooding and minor disasters just as often as us.

My parents have always have fully stocked cupboards for as long as I can remember, I'm not sure how much of that is expecting the cold war and how much is simply growing up poor, but it did occur to me when living in London that a lot of the population would be reduced to eating each other within a few days if the shops werent replenished.

I personally think that the real reason, and why it's not being spoken about, are the dodgy nuclear power stations dotted around some parts of France and Belgium which are very close to Germany. The German government keep trying to get them shut down.

We live pretty close to AWE and are advised to stockpile anyway.

Mrs Puggit is having none of it, but at least we have enough wine hehe

Funny you should say that because all we would have a reasonable supply of is booze and toilet roll I reckon!

Oh, shampoo and conditioner too, she buys fking litres of the stuff. I wonder if it's edible? hehe
