Interesting that they have quoted from this forum.

a) I hope MOTK was asked before they used the quote

b) it just shows that what we say on here can be picked up for more mainstream distribution
Surely he doesn't own the copyright? The site owner will do.

Besides, I doubt they would have to ask as this is clearly "fair comment" (or whatever it's called) as far as copyright law goes.
Yeah I don't think this is covered by copyright.
I wasn't thinking of copyright rules. I was thinking more of "common courtesy".

And it seems it's OK for The Telegraph to cut and paste from PH but we are under pain of punishment if we cut and paste from them.

Yes - it's all in the terms and conditions of posting on the site, but I agree that it feels a bit off that they should simply cut and paste. And this is The Telegraph we are talking about, not a random news site.

You comment about hoping the driver doesn't pull through could be taking out of context as well so you may wish to edit that.
Thanks. Bit late for that as I've been quoted about 10 times.
I might ask for this thread to be deleted.

Yes, sorry old chap. I was surprised when I saw it but thought it being a reputable newspaper they should have given you the courtesy of getting in touch to check facts etc...

Then I remembered, the idea of a reputable newspaper disappeared years ago. Thought you would want to know.

You should always think about what you say on any forum or anywhere in the public domain.

That's why everyone should think before speculating or blaming someone, particularly when the facts aren't yet known and particularly about an event like this.

It's likely there are a lot of people on PH like me who know either the owner, the mechanic, the detailer or others who have worked with them, so bear them in mind too as it must be pretty awful for them and I wouldn't be surprised if they're being phoned and doorstepped by the Press at this point who delight in trawling through people's personal lives if they think it's 'in the public interest' and will get them a few more column inches for their chip-paper.

Yes they didn't need to quote or copy it word for word did they? Tossers.

Mods. are aware and have asked HM to look into the issue re other "journalists" using PH as a source and take whatever action they deem necessary.

Quite, and given your relationship to the deceased and the nature in which that information was volunteered - to like-minded friends (for want of better description of our care in the Internet community) - nicking the quote is utterly crass.

It's lazy modern journalism. They have groups of freelancers who surf for stories, and even blatantly rewrite other papers content. There was a blog by a freelancer recently at the Mail who got sick of it.

Sad indictment of what the Telegraph has become.

Thoughts go out to both parties involved frown

One more click and they could have obtained his full name...

Anyway, chillingly sad story frown How suddenly things can go tragically wrong. The same with that story about the family swept off the rocks in Newquay at the weekend.

I just returned home from work to learn from my wife that a journalist has just called asking to speak to me about the incident.
I don't know which paper, but they're reading this forum post.
I think that everything I know is in the public domain, so really there's nothing breaking that I can add. I just learnt about it hear-say, as I'm local, but it's all been reported accurately.

Keep thinking about this, like someone said earlier, truly the stuff of nightmares.

However, I think that, on balance letting a youngster have a go in your car can provide them a lot of joy so we shouldnt stop entirely (not that I have anything they would get excited about), thankfully this is a very isolated incident, I think really it is a case of ensuring that we dont get carried away showing off, most of going in something different isnt going ballistic, it is just so they can tell their mates, maybe a little bit of noise in the lower gears, keep it sensible, drop it a cog or two and a second or two of throttle, go through a tunnel and I would be very cautious with very very fast stuff and anything less protected like Atoms and the like.
This is so tragic, my thoughts are with everyone touched by this.

Jacko makes a good point. A split second has turned this event from something wonderful into a nightmare.

If somebody posted here that as a 13 year old they asked for pics in an F50 and had instead been taken for a spin on private roads I'm sure everyone of us would have lauded it as a fantastic, formative experience. So sad how things can change in an instant.
And how we all have a responsibility to wind it in when there's a child involved, in particular someone else's.
Anyone really, have heard of similar in the past, it is worse if it is a child but really, the old "With great power comes great responsibility" line applies, remember Harris getting thrown about in that F1 LM (think that is what it was) sat on a tool box, that was an accident waiting to happen.

This is the driver's eye view of the track, where that car is going down to the right.

I'd imagine if you know this road, and you know there's nothing likely to be coming the other way with a kid to impress in an F50, it is very tempting/easy to give it a whole load of wellie.
Might be an old picture but plenty of evidence of hooning on that road with all the tyre marks.
That image is the other end. Tyre marks from the many lorries and tractors that use the road. This would be the turn around point to go back.

Good.

The papers can't have it all their own way.

500 odd horsepower, no driver aids, doesn't look the grippiest road surface in the world. I imagine a blip of the gas pedal, a sudden spin and a bloody great lump of wood spearing into the passenger compartment.

RIP kid.

Very sad incident and sad reading this thread. I hope his parents find the strength to deal with their loss, as well as the driver and his guilt.

tragic but definitely a rare event and shouldn't stop the childhood joy of riding in a supercar.

I hope you're right. I can clearly trace my car problem back to a ballistic ride in a family friends E28 M5 back in the day. It certainly makes me think twice about passing the experience on though...
