Is it really that important as to the car someone dies in ffs?
Sadly people die everyday in road accidents.
This is PH - we're mourning the F50

really not an appropriate thing to say,
Why? A child can die in any car.

Very sad to hear of this accident. An F50 is open topped rather like a targa so perhaps something come into the passage cabin on impact or the kid may have not been restrained properly by the seatbelt if he was slight/small. When I hill-climbed cars it was rather sobering to see how much damage was done to cars coming off the track and hitting trees or wooden fences/posts near the usually single-lane, narrow course. Infact, I actually felt safer circuit racing as the run off and general safety facilities were much better than at your average hill-climb.

The fence that is shown as damaged is a rather sturdy looking fence - I wouldn't want to be running into that.

I saw a photo not too long ago of a Golf that'd hit one of those wooden post and rail style fences as it slipped off the road on ice. Fortunately, there was no one in the passenger seat, because the rail came up through the back of the N/S wheelarch and right through the seat back.

Yes that happened to me - moderate speed crash into a wooden post and rail fence. A rear passenger would have been like something out the the film "The Omen" as a fence post came through the door and pierced the roof

I crashed through one of those fences in an MX5 (actually, I span through it, down an embankment after hitting a large lorry that had stopped across the dual carriageway.)

The paramedic that first arrived said, apart from being bloody lucky I didn't die in the collision, or in a collision with the oncoming traffic as I span through it across both oncoming lanes, that I was lucky because usually the horizontal wooden parts go straight through the windscreen and straight through one's face.

That poor kid and his family.

What will happen to the Ferrari? Will the company repair it?

Moral and practical dilemma.

I don't think, if someone died in that car, that it should go back on the road. Certainly if it was mine, I wouldn't want it back. Nor would I buy it if that previous history was disclosed.

But then, we buy houses that people die in... Don't know, weird one really.

Aeroplanes involved in fatal accidents have sometimes been restore to flight. Look up what happened to Spitfire Tr9 PV202.

The BRM in which Spencer Flack died is running again.

Having said all that, I'm not sure if this thread is the right place for such a discussion.

I don't see why not. It is a car forum after all.

I just thought with it being a rare car it would eventually be worth restoring. Haven't some rare Ferraris been restored from just the VIN plate?

I imagine if a 250 GTO got completely destroyed it would be rebuilt.

One of the 250GTOs is well known for having been rebuilt after a fatal.

It did sell for slightly less than one which hadn't been.

Yup, lost a friend when I was teenager due to a fence post through the windscreen. She never stood a chance. frown

Of course it's a car forum. I kind of noticed that a while ago.

I just thought if people wanted to discuss moral dilemmas about rebuilding cars involved in fatal accidents, maybe a specific and separate thread to this particular one might be more appropriate.

It's quite a problem in the UK, with our narrow roads and encroaching hedges/boundaries. Wire and post fencing can be just as dangerous as the stuff in the OP.

37 year old and 13 year old unrelated according to the article.

Someone showing off? Trying to impress a kid?

Anyone on PH know for owning one of these?
Reminds me of Colin McRae's dire flying skills.

I don't know whether insurance companies have some sort of industry policy that they don't repair cars which people have died in. Other than the economic costs of repairing it. It's quite likely to be pretty wrecked though, one would think.

It's a pretty grim subject though.

Cycled past earlier. Some pretty big posts hit that are concreted in. Took a good few out of the ground before getting the fence.

I've seen the other cars parked down there, some very fancy stuff. An f50 could hit a pretty decent speed from the corner given a boot full I'd say and the road surface is really not great

Have to wonder, some guy doing a mate a favor, bring him along I'll take him for a quick ride?

Very sad
