I just posted something, regretted it and now I've seen that it is being officially reported that they were fully clothed with no ID, wish I had posted it.

Basically, maybe they weren't trying to make land fall at all. Maybe they were looking to do something else.

Remember all the rumoured reports of the bulk buying of Iodine tablets in Europe over the last week? Punch up Google maps and have a look at what's just round the corner from Camber Sands....

Fully clothed, no ID, no relatives on hand to assist authorities.

Pretty obvious what it is, but of the course the first person to suggest it was abused.
Fort Jefferson you mean? In the absence of any information, very early in proceedings, despite announcements at that time from Police stating there was no evidence the dead were immigrants he/she simply guessed the dead were immigrants. I never understand the motivation for people to jump on PH and speculate in the absence of any facts myself. Maybe he/she was right and this incident does turn out to be a case of would be immigrants but stating it is at such an early stage counter to evidence at the time was questionable.

My definition of abuse needs amending too.

Irrespective of all that there are still lots of unanswered questions in this story.

News on R2 at 9PM last night said the deaths were "linked to" high tides, as far as I remember the wording.

Bearing in mind that migrants crossing the channel has been reported before, very recently and in the same location.

I have friends who live in Ringwould,Kent who witnessed a dinghy full of migrants on the beach at Walmer, and it happens (migrants landing on the coast) far more often than people realise, as it's not widely reported.

As was the poster a few months back who suggested we improve our maritime security.

We only have three cutters available to guard the entirety of our coastline I believe.

So far we have only heard about crossings that have gone wrong.

My parents have a caravan down at the Romnney marsh and the local rumour is there is a number being dropped off around there with cars waiting to collect them.

Iodine is used for radiation poisoning. I assume the implication is a attack on a nuclear power station by terrorists.

Tin foil hats also help deflect radiation.

Iodine tablets are used in radioactive emergencies.

And as for what's a short stroll along the coast from Camber Sands, that'll be Dungeness.

If it's migrants then it's surprising that there's only 5 or 6 bodies. Perhaps some got ashore?

How about simply because it is far and away the most likely explanation.

First thing that sprang to my mind too; not because I'm racist, but because I'm probably right.

The first thing that springs to your mind when it is reported at the time that two swimmers have drowned on an extremely popular beach on the hottest day of the year during the summer holidays subsequent to numerous other drowning accidents around the coast in the previous several days is this must be failed immigrant crossings. Contrary to Police announcements at the time that there was no evidence of this?

I would have thought "far and away, probably, the most likely explanation" would have been a sad case of day trippers drowning.

Maybe when more light is shone on the case it might turn out to be immigrants attempting to enter the UK drowning. That would be remarkable.

Anyway, off to work...

Why haven't they resumed the search for the 6th body?

If it is immigrants with no ID and obviously no one locally knows them, then how does anyone know there is a 6th body?

Possibly a sighting, maybe a way off where the other bodies have been recovered, or maybe even, the Police know a lot more than they are saying.

That's outrageous, there is no evidence whatsoever of medusozoa involvement.
