Doesn't sound great, this one.
BBC article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-371921...

Left his bike, gone off in fairly distinctive slightly trashed black van.

Hoping for a good outcome, aware the odds aren't great.

Van is distinctive with that roof rack thing.

Those VWs are generally fairly distinctive, anyway. He might as well have kidnapped the child in a Ferrari.

Seems very odd so far. Aparently boy hasn't been reported missing, just some people saw the boy getting into the van? Apologies if I've got it wrong.

No, think you're exactly right. But unfortunately that nobody's thought to/is in a state to report him missing, is not positive proof that he's safe and OK, and IF this is a hostile abduction, or parent absconding with child subject to care order etc, these first few hours will very much be the critical ones - especially if it's actually someone who is an immediate danger to the kid. They can't gamble on it being uncle Fred picking him up as usual, when they don't know who it is, van in what sounds like rough state too (missing window did I see somewhere?) and so on.

Hopefully by tomorrow morning there'll be confirmation that it WAS uncle Fred, everything's fine, big anticlimax all round.

OT but if you was speeding on that road you can bet they would be posting a ticket to you through the post from the cctv evidence.

why are these cameras never able to read a reg plate when it is most needed?

Love the van description. rolleyes
...had three alloy wheels, with one front nearside missing.
He shouldn't get far then.

More serious, the kid's mountain bike (Giant Frantic) the chain is off the chainwheel. Perhaps he was dragged off?
If kid was picked up because chain was off, why not take the bike?

Hope he's found quick.

I interpreted the no back windows as solid back doors rather than broken screen. Hope its all a misunderstanding and kids safe and well.

Seems a strange story to be hitting the top of the news items.

I wonder if there's "more-to-it" than the reporting suggests? Beeb are so "careful" these days with getting stuff right - that and qualifying anything speculative too.

Thats not a 2002 model (article claims 02 plate, unless its a vanity plate)

Seems an odd story, unless theres more theyre not telling.

I'm not having it. Too much of this doesn't add up.

No report of kid missing is odd to say the least.

Perhaps it was a parent taking their unruly child home who didn't want to do as they were told. The bike might have nothing to do with the incident.

I don't like to throw around accusations of anything before facts are known - but child is bundled into Stolen van. It's not good - at all

But no child has been reported missing? If there was a hunt for an abducted child wouldn't you expect some details about the missing child to be released?
