On day one of the Nottinghill bash, children's day as it happens, the following crime figures were recorded.

Today, the joviality has been in full swing

I don't ever remember packing a blade when I took my kids out. Isn't it time somebody stood up for local residents and stopped this excuse for widespread criminality. It's gone way beyond 'celebration' now

Two young local residents, upstanding members of the community, helping to clear up the mess in the streets after a vibrant law abiding cultural celebration.

I don't see a problem.

I lived just up from Ladbroke Grove tube station (Cambridge Gardens) 19 years ago. Even then weekend of the Carnival was one of widespread criminal damage, the odd serious assault and open drug dealing. We wondered why all our neighbours had cleared off for the weekend...

What a disgrace, it's time they shut this "carnival" down.

They tried that originally. There were riots.

The company I work for supplied roughly 500 8 x 4 OSB ply to board up the entire area for 2 days.

That's a lot of boards.

Nuff said.

It's absolute bks. Any major 'cultural event' which requires routine boarding up of vast swathes of the town shouldn't be permitted.

I remember getting dragged into the Carnival area on the Sunday night a few years ago working on an ambulance. It was like a warzone!
I'm amazed it hasn't been stopped or moved away yet.

There was an article in the Standard about it this week with some residents complaining about it. One guy was saying that it was his first year living there and neighbours had told him how bad it was and that he would need to board his garden up so was saying how it should be stopped.
Having knowingly moved into a house on the carnival route, I had absolutely no sympathy for him laugh

I'm not a fan myself but isn't 100 odd offenses for a crowd in the hundreds of thousands pretty damn good?

100 arrests per day vs an attendance of around 1m people per day? hardly a crime fest.

I used to go every year and while it was certainly a bit rough around the edges there were many thousands of people having a good time and behaving themselves.
The idiot with the broken bottle in that pic won't need Carnival weekend to act like a tt.

Tell that to the residents. The police and thus the arrest statistics, understandably, only scratch the surface of the criminality.

Anyone who has moved to the area in the last 50 years is aware of the carnival and the issues it brings. It is not like it started last year and now everyone is shocked

What is the arrest record for Glastonbury or Reading festivals?

Still I personally hate the Notting Hill Carnival as I always seem to have to work in the area when it's on thus it feks up my parking. Dumped the car in SW London today and made my way in by tube.

Bayswater station stunk like a nasty club in the morning and my feet stuck to the floor. I returned to travel home at noon, luckily before the masses turned up.

You'd think the houses in the area would be cheap considering having to put up with that every year biggrin

167 arrests at Glastonbury this year. In terms of visitors NHC is 11 times larger each day and dont forget everyone is searched going into Glastonbury.

If they want to make it "safer". Move it to Hyde Park and make it a ticketed event even if the tickets are free.
