Worryingly, it's something I've heard from pretty much every policeman/woman I've ever met. They all seem to enjoy the adrenaline rush of the physical stuff.
What an absolute load of tosh. FWIW I have three close friends who are currently serving and two that have left the job. Each of them will happily admit to enjoying the physical side of their work. I can't speak for two retired "dads" amongst my circle. I suspect one of them enjoyed a bit of rough stuff back in his youth while the other is a lettuce leaf of a man who in my opinion should never have served a day in the Force. I doubt he enjoyed that side of the job much.
Anyway. Three of those friends will have been on duty over the weekend. I'll ask them their thoughts over the next several weeks. In the past, in the most, they don't really enjoy NHC as they don't know the patch, it's noisy and dirty, there are too many loud mouthed idiots around and the shifts are really long.
I couldn't do large chunks of their job. On the whole they love it.

I work with a few ex met who transferred out to us and the carnival is hated by all of them. As for enjoying the fight, I dont as I'd rather not have to scrap with some idiot. The only people I know who do enjoy it are probationers who've not yet sustained injury or ever had to justify a high use of force. I suspect my opinion on it is shared by most front line officers.
It did not take long for the usual members of the PPRC (protect police reputation crew) to wade in with their usual claptrap.
There should be an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the assaults on those police officers. An open, transparent and public inquiry is in order.
When it has finished it should go on to look into the numerous deaths caused by police incompetence. Investigations into those seem to get bogged down by delaying tactics, lies and cover-ups.

There were 454 arrests at the carnival this year. This increase was in part due to the recent change in legislation around psychoactive drugs and a result there was a high number of drug related arrests.
169 people were arrested for drugs (cannabis) and 38 people for psychoactive drugs (nitrous oxide). Thats almost half of all the arrests. There were 90 arrests for offensive weapons.
Mr Marsh the police rep informed us that the arrests at Nottinghill Carnival was 10 times that at Glastonbury but he failed to tell us that 20 times more people attend NHC than do Glastonbury (2,000,000 : 135,000)
It is so sad that the editors and news directors choose to focus on the tiny minority of people who cause trouble and gloss over the largely trouble free experience of the majority of people who attend. Newspapers and police who do not live in these communities have their agendas.
It makes a lot of sense; stop the carnival that 2million people enjoy because 90 lowlife scum took knives with them.

Im sure the Officers now on anti-viral drugs having been bitten and spat on during the weekend absolutely love being in a ruck.
Getting the st kicked out of you is so much fun. Not least because you then get tin foil tossers like David Ball coming on line spouting drivel about how 'brutal' you are.

Did any officers have the st kicked out of them at Carnival? If so that is shocking. Shocking that their commanders allowed it to happen, I mean. With that many officers on patrol in such a relatively small area to have lost control of public order to that extent is scandalous. I didn't go this year but my experience was that officers were stationed in significant numbers with small groups or pairs only at what appeared to be relatively soft spots presumably with hefty support only seconds away.

So a few people get stabbed...
fking bonkers.
"Yeah, so a few people get stabbed...where's the harm??"
Also, considering the volume of people there over the three days (c1,000,000) that's not too bad is it?
That's one million people days - look at the amount of injuries over one million people days of anything and you won't find this is any worse.
It should be banned because a few people got stabbed; okay well let's ban lots of stuff then where people get injured.
Just because a few low-life's get stabbed why should the 99.9% of people who took the time and effort to go there and didn't manage to stab each other be penalised?

Yes of course. People only get nicked for it if they are being particularly unsubtle, being provocative, being anti-social in some other way or dealing.
In that case then I feel the figures are massively skewed and not fit for use.If all the people smoking cannabis were arrested how many would the figure be?
5000, 50,000?
I guess it isn't possible to say but if people are allowed to break the law in full view of the police you can't use the arrest figures as a barometer of criminality.
