A great shame.

Assuming that's the film with the deaf and blind guys I only watched that last week. It's a brilliant film.
Pic is from Stir Crazy when they were in prison (rodeo rider...)

Film you saw was Hear no Evil, See no Evil.

Blazing Saddles is my earliest recollection of him. My Dad let me watch it at a far younger age than I probably should have been watching it smile.

His films with Richard Pryor were and still are a great watch.

My son has just recently been watching Willy Wonka (daily at one point!)

A sad loss

The sequence when they go to the prison holding cell and start to act hard is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

From what I've heard, genuinely passionate about his art, and a great guy - which is always good to hear when his films were a big part of my childhood and still bear watching as an adult.

I think we are all missing an important point about Mr Wilder.

That he wasn't afraid to shove social inequality straight in your face and let you work it out.....even back then.

RIP a true genius.

Very sad news. He made the world a happier, funnier place, and sometimes a slightly crazy and anarchic place.

RIP.

"Well, to tell a family secret, my grandmother was Dutch." Awesome

With many others here, my first encounter with Gene Wilder was Blazzin' Saddles - and it is still one of my favourite films ever.

RIP, The Waco Kid

"Are we awake?"
"That depends. Are we black?"
"Yes, we're black."
"Then we're awake, but very puzzled."

Sad loss. A pretty exceptional comic actor.

I can't imagine anyone else managing to pull off that deeply sinister portrayal of Willy Wonker and walk the finest of fine lines between eccentric and menacing; Jonny, you didn't even come close, sorry. Of all his roles, the one scene which really sticks in my mind is in Silverstreak when he blacks up with shoe polish in the bathroom. I may need to watch that again this evening.
