It was a mistake, a bad attempt to be funny, and luckily no harm done.

Twice in recent months I've asked a mum if the baby in the pram is real or one of those dolls. Bizarrely very young babies are so perfect they do look like the dolls some 'odd' people buy, or the ones given to young girls to make them think about getting knocked up.

"Ms Duckers was showing her new daughter off to friends and neighbours in the store with her partner Lewis Temple, and her seven-year-old daughter, Libby."

Get out of the way!

Not sure if you're serious? As a grown man when was the last time you saw a woman carrying a doll around a supermarket and decided the right thing to do was to punch it?

He didn't think it was though. Should make for an interesting court case.

Sounds pretty sensible, punch every doll you see in case it's a baby. No, wait. That's the wrong way around.

Oh that doesn't work either.

Which ones are you supposed to punch?

Ignorance is no defence in law. It's doesn't matter what he "thought".

It's ignorance of the law that is no defence. In this case the moron is claiming that he did something bizarre that could have amounted to criminal damage to try to defend against the allegation that he punched a baby.

Hmmm. Before everyone goes completely batst on here it might be worth looking at the photos.

A punch from a chap to a delicate babies face is going to leave a lot of tissue damage bruising etc

Assuming that's an after photo I don't see anything, and no underlying damage seems to have been found by the hospital.

So although punch makes a good headline I'm not sure you should regard punch as the sort of thing you see outside a nightclub.

I could be wrong but I think it would be sensible not to react quite so strongly to a headline
