Hello,

My 3 friends & I want to do the 3 peaks but travel between them on bike

Each of the 3 peaks take about 5 hours to climb at a moderate pace

There is 450 miles of cycling & we all have decent bikes

We have 9 days to complete the challenge but 1 is taken up with travel

It would involve cycling roughly 65 miles on 5 days and about 35 miles + doing the climb on 3 days

My wife is complaining that it is too challenging and I might have a heart attack and die, I am 37 and reasonably fit, have a gym at home and would train seriously for the challenge

To put my fitness into context I did a triathlon (50km cycle, 10km run, 2km swim) in 3 hours 45 mins when I was a bit fitter a few years ago (on a hybrid bike not a road bike and I had done no training for it, just decided to do it one day & went & did it all using local facilities), and frequently run 10 miles or cycle 20 miles and can do either in 1:45.  I also have 9 months to train for it and have no issue buying equipment and the right supplies

We would sleep in youth hostels so would carry minimal gear

Do you think this is a massive stretch, or perfectly achievable?

Perfectly achievable assuming you did some suitable training for it. The hardest bit would be getting up and down the peaks. Your wife is overreacting.

I think your main problem will be boredom, 65 miles isn't a great distance if you have all day to do it in.

I would increase the daily mileage on the bike, 100miles in 10hrs isn't pushing it too hard and try to work it so that you get more of a rest before/after the climbs. I take it when you're climbing you will be leaving your bikes and kit in a hotel room?

Thanks for answers so far, I think that for people who aren't into fitness this sounds like quite a lot but for people who know a bit about it they know it isn't actually that challenging, more about overcoming discomfort and weather than actual physical endurance. We are going to do it in July so weather will be good hopefully

My wife's best friend did this with her Dad a few years ago.
