As per title, has anyone had much luck with buying prefilled gabions and having them delivered?

Need approx 30 to underpin an extended driveway in the peak district.

Most companies are either dismissing us for such a small quantity or asking £12,000 just to fill the damn things!

The driveway is down a lane with no space for us to dump truck them in and fill ourselves.

Any ideas?

Many thanks frown

The other option to Pre-filled gabions is getting bagged hardcore HIAP'd onto site, then using an excavator to pick up the bag & hover it over gabion and getting a knife on a stick to slit the bottom to ''fill'' the gabion in situ.

Travis Perkins is looking into 30 bags of hardcore delivered to site, but I cant think of other companies that would be able to offer this service?

Many thanks in advance

Doubt you'll find pre-filled gabions as the cages aren't strong enough to lift by when full.

http://www.masonbrosquarryproducts.co.uk/new-porta...

these guys are the ones who have quoted so far, they need to look into what sort of trucks they could use to get it on site though.

Hoping others exist that do the same/similar!

This, the weight would distort when lifting.

Out of interest, any pics of the problem you're trying to fix? Someone (not me!) might have alternate suggestions.

For what it's worth, found a few suppliers down south who are around the £6500 for 20 off 1m3 gabions delivered via an Artic.

More or less what we need! wink

Gabion baskets are about £26 ea and the stone to fill them about £45 ea. So £6500 sounds steep. You'd need a man and an excavator for 2/3 days but that shouldn't cost more than a £1000.

The only land available is the driveway which we need to underpin. We just don't have the space on site to fill them or deposit they material to do so. Getting it delivered by bulk bags was £150 per 850kg.

Local farmers couldn't help, and time is an issue with winter approaching. It just came down to paying for the convenience!

Just a thought but can the gabions take the weight of the material being used to fill it and then be lifted without collapsing?

For those interested this is the sort of thing, with a range of shapes and sizes available....

Still looking at our options, and in talks with a farmer and some labourers to try and do it on site ourselves. Failing that, below is expensive but quicker and easier.
