Afternoon,

Wife and I are attending a good friends wedding in late November and flying in to Birmingham but we will be hiring a car for 4 days to ferry us to and from the venue and around the place as we've never been down there before.
However, this being PH I don't want a run of the mill hire car for those 4 days. Is there a sports / performance / exec company anyone can recommend? I also don't want to spend a heap of money but I'd like something more exciting than the standard hire car. I couldn't afford a supercar for these 4 cars and being late November it wouldn't be a great idea but maybe something a bit different.

Any ideas?

Worth looking at Avis Prestige. I assumed they would be far more coin than the specialist sports car rental companies but their rates were hugely competitive. £1440 to hire a brand spankers McLaren 540S for 3 days. Less than £500 a day seemed very reasonable. Similarly, a Merc AMG GT was about £1k for 3 days - lower down the pile am F-Type Jag for about £650 for the V8 and £550 for the V6.

Birmingham has plenty of sports car hire places! maybe try 'lord aleems' place?

Quite or change the venue to Bradford, great selection of hire cars there.

Cheers for the tips, I'll check those places as suggested. I don't need a lot of boot space as it's just 3 nights but it'll need to fit a suit bag and the wife's wee carry on bag too.

See : http://churchillsupercars.com/

Give them a call, speak to Mike and tell him Nick said you should call him.

He should be able to do you a good deal.

Cheers,
Nick

They want £4900.00 a week for their LP560.

I had one for 2 years, a quick back of a fag packet calculation tells me I lost 30K depreciation, spent about 5K on insurance and 2.5K for tyres.
Any other issues were done under warranty and I'm not including fuel because it has to be paid for in the hire car anyway.

Mine cost me roughly £360.00 a week.

I realise of course that you don't need to have the purchase price if you hire but still a ludicrous difference.

Not knocking their business model either, good luck to them, just fancied doing the comparison.

Be interesting to see what discount they'd give if you wanted it for 2 years!

a lot of these companies want 2-5k deposit as well.

this place has some nice cars.

A morgan plus 4 would be a nice way to travel.

Caterham maybe hire a cheap car and then one of these for a few days.

Not...just...yet... 28.

A lot of places seem to quote 30+ as the magic number for rentals too I've noticed.

Cheers for the recommendations guys, will be given the places you've listed a call over the next few days.

Trouble being, Avis want 5 days minimum hire from Birmingham.

That one nw28840 mentioned starts at 28 y.o. and seeing as it appears to be his mate (and he has offered to let you name drop), that must be the winner.

Ah, shame. They do shorter hires from London only it seems.

Have a look at thrifty, you could get an M car for a reasonable amount, although they don't have a site at Birmingham Airport, it's probably a 5-10 minute taxi ride.

another vote for Avis Prestige, used them a couple of times, very competitive prices and pretty decent service too, both occasions were a one day hire

30+ again. Their rates do look decent though, so decent I may book an M4 for my 30th in November smile
