Brexit didn't happen because people wanted UKIP anywhere near Westminster. It happened because people were hacked off with the establishment. Now that Brexit has been secured, is it any real surprise that Nigel has left the sinking ship? you missed the point. I stated it's a shame they havnt rebranded and changed direction.
They have in the past taken a reasonably proportion of the vote.
As such I feel they had the opportunity to pick up a larger percentage of the vote and become the second largest party.
I wasn't stating what policys of theirs I may or may not agree with.
Only that they are missing an opportunity.

Yes, they did get a lot of votes, but tellingly, they never got them in general elections, and I would suggest this is because the electorate's desire to give the establishment a kick up the arse is outweighed by the fear of Nige and his gurning nutters ever actually getting anywhere near the reins of power!

I think they garnered votes when it didn't matter simply because there was no alternative option for people to choose as a protest vote. I have no doubt that this process did, for many, normalise the thought of voting for Brexit, and without UKIP, I'm sure Brexit wouldn't have happened, but from there to actually voting for UKIP to actually do anything is a very, very big step.

Personally, I think so long as May manages to keep her party harmonious and demonstrate at the very least a solid road map on Brexit negotiations with Article 50 already triggered, she'll win back almost every single former Tory voter who went to UKIP.

With Corbyn's stance on immigration and various other batst mental Socialist policies, I think she'll also be able to hoover up a significant chunk of UKIP's ex-Labour voters, as they won't want to see any risk of Corbyn getting in.

To my mind, UKIP is done, dusted and over. Nige knows it, hence his departure. The rest of them just haven't yet realised that people voted for them in spite of them rather than because they actually wanted them to win anything.

As the Labour party conference love in is now over, surely the behind the scenes backstabbing is simply being formulated.
I give it 24hrs at most before their is some more news headlines involving various members of the labour party.

They got 3 or 4 million at the last GE. Their problem, like other smaller parties is they are spread across the country and FPTP punishes them for it.

That's not an assessment of how good or otherwise they would be, but the system clearly disadvantages UKIP, Green and the smaller parties. Frankly I think that's a good thing, or else we'd end up with god only knows what sort of calamitous coalitions which nobody voted for.

Arguably the Tories won last time because of fear of a Labour/SNP cabal. Imagine if it were a 'rainbow coalition' of SNP/Green/LibDem/DUP/whatever.

I don't think the British public would know what to do with the offer of wide coalition? Too many uncertainties. We are fundamentally a 2.5 (2 since LibDems collapsed) party system with a few "single issue" groups at the fringes.

Anyway he has ruled it out (with the SNP), at least this for now.
