Corbyn rules out resigning following Labour's defeat in Copeland

Jeremy Corbyn recorded a clip for broadcasters before he started his speech. Referring to the Copeland result, he said:

Copeland is obviously very disappointing. I hoped we’d have won the election there. We didn’t ...
When he was asked if he would resign in the light of the fact that Labour’s share of the vote has been falling in a series of byelections now, he ruled out the proposal. He replied:

I was elected to lead this party. I was elected to lead this party to oppose austerity, to oppose the redistribution of wealth in the wrong direction, which is what this government is doing. We will continue our campaigning work on the NHS, on social care, on housing.
In which case it's party split or put up and keep going on. Not great.

Question at press conference this morning.
Q. Have you looked in a mirror this morning and thought the problem is me.

Sounds about right. Forget about the Conservatives, focus on your real enemy. Your own party.

Being serious for a minute.
Why do politicians do it ? Why tell lies about stuff that all too easily be discovered via the power of the net.
I don't have an axe to grind against him but in all honesty this Paul Nuttall seems extremely naïve.
A lil historical titbit that popped up in the This Week special was Nuttall saying he would not run for leader because he would not wish for the media scrutiny on he and his family....I guess he forgot his wise decision from a few years ago and held his fingers that no-one would ever look at him? biggrin

The real problem Labour face is that their message is not sufficiently left wing. They need to stop playing in the middle of the park and make a rational strategic move to the far left. The electorate are getting confused signals, some from the far right Blairite tendency, some from the more mainstream Corbynists. He really need the workin class back and voting Labour.

For example Jeremy needs to commit to completely reversing swingeing and wicked Tory austerity and bring in some real socialism. For example he should say Labour will commit to increase benefits, to significantly raise taxes on the rich and middle classes, to tax wealth and property, to cap earnings and introduce Basic Income for all, to scrap Trident, to fight Brexit, to scrap immigration controls, to end the Murdoch hegemony of the media etc.

This is the problem, and it will remain so until he comes out fighting. So my advice to Jeremy is say what you mean, no holds barred, and follow through with it.

Yep I agree 100%, that is exactly what he needs to say and where he needs to position the Labour party.

Surely that can't be the original front stem, or it would be way above its limit?

And how does it stay in place without spacers? I can only assume this is some sort of antiquated technology which pre-dates my bike spannering?

It's a pre aheadset style expanding wedge stem. No spacers required, just stick it in the head tube and tighten, and the wedge jams it tight.

Not like he did obviously, there can't be much of it actually inside the tube.

Is this what you believe will make a significant difference (for the better) for this country as a whole? Or is it just that you think Jeremy should come up with some policies and stick to them?

Do you believe that the views above will ever get any Labour party into power regardless of JC being at the helm or not? Genuinely interested.
