Suppose you had a highly qualified police instructor follow you around for a couple of hours. What would you want them to say about your riding that would make you think 'yes, that's where I want to be'.

I'd want them to say the top one, but it is properly more the 'a little wary'.

Put me in a car and I'm fine, on my bike there is just something about going around corners as fast I can't quite get my head around.

My friend is a police biker and went out with him a few weeks ago, it was a completely different world. I did learn a lot following him for a hour or two though.

What the hell sort of poll is this? Oh I'd want him to say I was utter ste, what do you think?

Do the bike safe course and a report on your riding from a police officer is exactly what you'll get. Personally, I'd want them to tell me the truth, whatever that was. In my case I had the senior instructor and the guy who assesses all of the instructors, following me all day around Windsor. But as a poll, that's total arse. It's a loaded question. Weird.

Of course you want them to tell you the truth, but what do you want the truth to be?
Do you aim to be riding in the exact police approved manner which is what IAM and ROSPA examiners seem to look for?
Do you aim to leave a bit more in hand because you don't have a marked up bike and aren't intending to pursue villains?
Or do you regard the police method as riding by numbers and a bit over cautious?

Yes, strange question. Anyway I try to be cautious, I take my risks but I don't want to hurt anybody else but I do not respect speed limits most of the time. I do not think the limits are correct when there is no house in sight, no intersection and the visibility is good.

Perhaps I should have phrased the question as 'How does the riding style you aim to achieve compare with the police approved style, aside from purely legal considerations?'

I'd want the young, blonde policewoman to say: "That's a lovely Desmosedici you've got there. Can I see your aftermarket pipe?"

Okay that makes more sense. So to rephrase, "what riding style to you aspire to?" Or "how does your current riding style differ from that which you aspire to?"

I'd like a bit more confidence in the wet but I know that writhin a couple of months, that will return anyway as I'll have no choice but to commute in it. But I'd like to be able to dial that confidence up at will so that anytime is equivalent to post 2 months of wet commuting.

Other than that, I really rate my road riding st. And by that I mean that I'm happy with the risks I take, the progress I make and the fun I have. How that rates on everyone else's scale is of no consequence to me because to align myself with someone else's standards on either would be pointless and lead to me having less fun, making less progress or riding less safely. And I'm the only one who dictates those.

Would love the opportunity - the Bike Safe course was good, but longer and not havign the constraints of a fixed time, other riders etc, would be a whole different thing
