65 million people want Brexit to happen?

I assume you voted to remain......... we are Brexiting, leaving the EU, taking back control.......when I say we I mean me, you and every other UK citizen are now Brexiters, all 65 million of us, and the sooner those that voted remain get used to it, stop whingeing and move on the better.
But to say 65 million want to leave is a big fat lie, as I'd hope you must realise.
Agreed. It's closer to 515m if you include the rest of the EU.

She said "The government also has 65m people willing it to make a success of Brexit."

Are we to assume you disagree with that and want it to fail?

An excellent speech

Regardless of how much of what she states she wants, she actually gets, this will increase her popularity hugely here in the UK.

The remainrs will no doubt be going ballistic, saying that we (the UK) never voted to leave the common market etc, but of course the remainers want us to do just about enough to say that technically, we have left the EU, without in practical terms much changing. The speech will therefore polarise, but it was necessary as otherwise we stay in no mans land

I think it was very carefully calculated and makes those demanding she lay out her terms in the immediate few days after taking power look somewhat foolish now - this had the image of something measured, calculated & firm

I suspect if there was an election tomorrow, May's majority would go up massively on the back of this. I can't see what Corbyn could say that would achieve anything other than for those who already worship him.

Of course whether we get what May says she wants is an entirely different matter................

Not sure we were listening to the same speech. I think she was pretty clear that out means out of everything and that is exactly what most leavers voted for. The common market ceased to be years ago and turned into the common country and common government. Very happy to leave the single market if the other option is still being half in the EU.

I thought Theresa May was magnificent. The sentiments and intentions for UK future was so different to the constant dripping of despondency and gloom from the malcontents who will seek to destroy whatever the outcome is, opposition for the sake of it and for their own miserable benefit. At last, we have a star. She should
call a general election tomorrow.

We haven't left anything yet and she has put it out there that if we have to leave everything then so be it which is not what the EU would want it kind of negates some of their negotiating position.
My big concern is that Politicians will fk this up for both sides rather than come to a pragmatic agreement that does the least damage to trade between the UK and mainland Europe.

Did you watch the Q&As? she couldn't get off the stage quick enough.

Anyone can read a speech, a speech that was mostly leaked yesterday so no great shakes there but she's far from confidence inspiring, but a star laugh

It's a free country.

If people aren't happy with Brexit then they are perfectly entitled to say so. I suggest you stop whinging about people whinging and get used to it.

Who is it better for? Better for you? If you don't like it then stop reading about it.

It is more about free speech.

So it is more about your definition of whinging being different to mine. It seems that maybe yours is based on answering a Brexit voter back?

I think she struck the right tone.

Now that the decision to leave is set - there is no point in messing about with all sorts of half way houses. Part of the reason markets are jittery is because of uncertainty. Anything that helps reduce uncertainty has to be correct.

She has effectively removed a bargaining chip from the EU negotiators. They were hoping the UK would want access to the Free Market similar to what a member state gets. Now that they have been told that this is not what the UK wants - they have less in the way of obstacles to throw in the road.

Good speech now get on with the work what needs doing.

The rest of the E.U will be in a bit of a flux but let's face it Britain was never happy being part of a club it didn't belong in.

Two years is a long time to negotiate do,people are inpatient with politicians they don't trust.

Can anyone comment on why she would make this speech now rather than wait for either the supreme court decision or for the article 50 vote?

Exactly. She said in reference to successful negotiations "And another thing that's important. The essential ingredient of our success. The strength and support of 65 million people willing us to make it happen."

Stunning lack of simple comprehension skills by some posters.

Because the entire media pack, European leaders, UK population and probably unknown aliens hordes have been demanding that she explains what she is going to do.
