A quick reaction can very easily be an over-reaction.
Proof that politicians can't win really. If May joins the chorus quickly, then no doubt she will be accused of bandwagon jumping. If she makes no comment, then she is sucking up, if she refuses to condemn then she is supporting. etc.

Best not to respond quickly and certainly not make policy on the hoof to satisfy the baying media at a press conference in another country about something completely different.

She gave a measured answer, and the Government have subsequently followed up with the US, to ensure Britain isn't adversely impacted.

All in all I would say she played it pretty well.

Plus a 90 day travel ban, isn't exactly the death knell of human rights.

I disagree with Trump's policy, but I would not expect him to interfere with our politics and I do not think we should interfere with theirs.
If you look at the details of what he's done, which bits do you disagree with?

It's a 4mth ban on refugees and 3mths on all citizens from 7 countries - Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

On the face of it, if there are suspicions you aren't being careful enough with immigration then the only sensible approach is to halt it until you can be. I think even the Germans back tracked on the free for all approach.

The only main criticism I might have is why a few other countries weren't added.

The implementation was a little patchy it seems, but those wrinkles are being ironed out. I don't think it's practical nor effective to sit and deliberate this sort of thing for months on end as the end result would be no more effective and that's how government ends up implementing nothing.

Let's see what happens after 4mths. I suspect either his border control/security jockeys will have worked out exactly what they want to target and how to do it, and/or the restrictions will become more permanent. Fair play I'd say.

Every country has restrictions to who it lets in...is he only getting this grief because people don't like him?

I'm far from convinced it will stop or even reduce the likelihood of terror attacks there. The people who do those sort of things don't walk around wearing I Love ISIS t-shirts It may even risk stepping up the ante. But effective border controls have to be a good thing generically.

Compared to the rest of the world, May's condemnation of Trump's migration ban seems late and especially carefull.
Well, I guess being desperate for a trade deal is more important than human rights.
Is migration a human right now?

Wow, no Brexit thread on the first page.

It would be a good time to ram Article 50 through while all the right on types are crying about Trump.

Perhaps JC could take a leaf out of the DJT playbook - how to win public office in 10 simple steps $35 inc shipping from B'stardzon

Step 1. Be outrageous - the more outrageous the better (MSM will lap it up and distribute your message for free)

Step 2. Appeal to those who are disadvantaged by globalisation and immigration (see step 1)

Step 3. Plan to build a wall between Scotland and England

Step 4. See step 1

Step 5. See step 1

Step 6. See step 1

Step 7. See step 1

Step 8. See step 1

Step 9. See step 1

Step 10. See step 1

Good question. As you probably know, of course it's not. There's a lot of wild-eyed hysteria around at the moment isn't there and a few crocodile tears.

May has got the Conservatives in a real muddle & making our country look desperate & a laughing stock.
Holding Trumps hand like a love struck teenager . State visit offered in his first week. Roll forward a few days & her party openly criticise him. Self inflicted wounds & as dumb as the rude criticism from Bojo & co before he won.
Trump must be pretty confused by the populist furore from his new best friends party.

Another feckless bandwagon-jumper, saying what they think people want to hear rather than having the maturity and pragmatism to realise this particular situation doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
