What difference does it make though and why would it matter to anyone who is a genuine refugee?
Because if I was an 'illegal' economic migrant and wanted to get to the UK I'd probably claim asylum in the most asylum friendly EU country I could get to and travel legally from there. I just wondered if they could travel before they got asylum/EU citizenship. It would seem oddly repressive to prevent a genuine asylum seeker from traveling whilst their case was heard, which of course would mean a bogus asylum seeker like me could also travel. No idea. I'd still choose the South of France over most of the UK anyway. wink

I "think" if they successfully claim asylum in say Germany or france, they cannot then travel to another EU country to live and work for 5 years..? may be wrong but think I read something like that.

I would like to take this moment to apologise - on behalf of the UK - to the rest of the world, for inflicting Lily Allen's music on you.
We are deeply sorry.

Do you really want to stop the apology there?

This just gets better and better!

The kid is the son of a militia fighter who illegally entered the UK, claimed asylum from "the horros" of Afghanistan, then went back there on holiday!

It's a mad world isn't it, that being the same group that was heavily supported by the US in the eighties in their fight against the Russians.

I know you just hate the Daily Mail but this is one of the most sarcastic and funniest picture captions I have read:

"Millionaire pop star, with a new album expected to be released before Christmas, broke down while talking to the son of Afghan fighter-turned-asylum-seeker Hazrat Gul Sherin"

LOL smile

It missed one important thing.

"Millionaire pop star, with a new album expected to be released before Christmas, broke down while talking to the son of Afghan fighter-turned-asylum-seeker Hazrat Gul Sherin in his shack in the jungle, estimated to be worth more than £50"

EFA.

They are granted permanent residency as soon as their asylum claim is accepted and processed and then can apply for full citizenship after X number of years - in Germany I believe that is 5 years although exceptions can be made. It's only when they have full citizenship can they then travel, under EU freedom of movement, anywhere in the EU.

Ironically the quickest way for France to get rid of the Calais migrants would be to accept their asylum claims, fast track their French citizenship and then buy them a one way ticket to Britain and there would be nothing we could do to stop that.

Bbc news today states that 100 unaccompanied children will arrive in the UK today from Calais to begin fasttracking for residency in the UK.

Lets see how many of those end up living with Ms Allen - afterall, a few days ago she said the only thing stopping her giving them a bed in her house was the fact they werent allowed into the country scratchchin

One wonders why they don't do this, is living in France/Germany/Italy etc. for a few years (or even permanently) really such a hardship? After all many of use choose to do this and regularly enjoy holidays there, it's surely better than whatever sthole they came from?

Plus once they're claim is accepted and they are free to roam in their host country, it would surely then be easier to find a way here by some means, if that is their sole aim...

They don't need a home they will be homed with their relatives who are already here.
You know, those great people that illegally entered our country on the axle of a truck, whilst leaving their vulnerable kids / nephews and nieces living under a tarp in Calais.

I'm sure we can all feel the cultural enrichment.

Some more children for Lily to house - these ones have no family ties to the UK either and so would probably be grateful of her kind offer to house them.
