It's a quick and easy way to try and shut down debate that's why.

Happy for the border to be on our coastline.

Thing is anyone who is not permitted in will have to take the train back to Calais & it is a French issue why they have illegal or migrant immigrants in their country - issue being Schengen
Which of course is never going to happen, what will happen is that they claim asylum and, whilst their case is being considered, abscond into the country never to be found.

it's like child crying out "...I know you are, but what am I?" in response to some perceived insult, makes just as much sense and shuts down an argument/discussion just as effectively frown

How? We are the 6th largest GDP in the World they are trying to leave the 5th (France). Rules are clear you have to claim asylum in the first country you land in so any of these trying to get into the UK hard luck back to France you go and rightly so. France are being dispicable and vile towards the needy immigrants it's odd isn't it that they don't seem to want to deal with the migrants/asylum seekers yet are very happy to let them move to another country.

I'd rather close the Euro tunnel - which would significantly harm the Franch govt. to us meh it's a listed company

They don't need to win their case, just make the claim and bugger off whilst it's merits are being considered.

One or two little points here. If they're all aiming to claim asylum in the UK then we would need some sort of reception centre in Dover.
So not a Dover Jungle then? And then if they ever are "released" whilst their case is considered, many would they'd disappear into the mass population as illegals. So again, no Dover Jungle!
I agree completely. Any reception centre would be tiny in comparison to the Jungle because there are so few true asylum seekers there.

In fairness there is a war going on in France, OK it's only in specific areas mainly in Calais and Dunkerque, but I'm sure based on what's currently happening in the UK, the Govt would agree with a request for asylum from the very people waging the war.

The root cause is France are failing with immigration controls. They don't like the fact they have the Calais camp but that is the issue with Schengen these individuals have entered somehow and now trying to move into a non Schengen country we say Non /Nein the French are like WTF take these people they are needy etc

I'm liking Hard Brexit more and more as this will really dry rape the frogs into dealing with the inherent EU issue they keep kicking said can down the road.

In the absence of any official birth record or similar official document how do you actually prove someone's age? As far as I understand neither dental records or dna testing will actually give an accurate result.

Being detained
You may be detained at an immigration removal centre while you wait for a decision on your application.

You’ll either be:

released if you get permission to stay in the UK
held until you’re removed from the UK if you don’t get permission to stay
You can also be detained and removed if it’s decided that another country is responsible for offering you asylum.

Seems simple enough to me?

And is that how it actually works? How many illegal immigrants do we deport?

Dental can be accurate to about a 4 year window, I believe. DNA will only prove/disprove a claimed relationship to another, not age.

You certainly don't use the computerised photographic analysis method beloved of the Daily Mail & Express - the Microsoft site.. That calculated Katie Hopkins as over 60 and a 17 year old Boris Johnson as about 30.

You can't. All of the medical tests only give you a range. The more of the tests you do the more accurate it will be but since children all develop at different rates you'll struggle to separate out a 14 year old and an 18 year old with any certainty.

Indeed, UK authorities seem to have little stomach to deal with anything other than automated compliance fines against it's own citizens.

If we let them in, they'll likely be staying.

But where will they be going?
Detention centre fine but we have tens of thousands of homeless people who need to be housed first.

Did Bob Geldoff deliver on his promise to house those desperate Syrians in his nice Cornwall house or was it just press bluster. Didn't some MPs say the same too - it would be good to see if any of them actually took families /people in. I'd wager not a single one.

Setting aside it being from a rather amateur looking website it says "generally" those under 25 will only hear the sound. Hardly a means of providing conclusive proof. Plus looking at the state of Aleppo Id not be surprised if some peoples hearing is a bit knackered.

I have heard 12 Syrian children will be joining one of our local primary schools. The school has just come out of special measures and is in a very challenging area.

Quite why they have to drop 12 on an already struggling school is beyond me.
