The unanswered question of the lefty handwringers is "what is wrong with France, Germany, Austria, Italy and so on? The so-called refugees are already in the safety of the west, why make yourself less comfortable by camping out in a corner of it just to get to an island? The lefty handwringers talk about the so-called refugees as if they are still in mortal danger.
Well it is France. On the BBC news this morning there was a MP who had been on a committee looking into people trafficking,
he raised concerns about the checks carried out on the children coming across,
in his experience traffickers were using false relatives to get people into the country, historically he said over 50% of the children had disappeared from their supposed relatives.
My thoughts are a deal was done with the French to share some of the problem, the government presumed that it would be more acceptable to the population if they were "children".

Just been watching sky news from the jungle, all lined up with faces covered in wraps or hoodies. The one guy who apparently is 16 was told by another to cover his face after he had been filmed. I just don't see this ending well.
But why do you keep going on about it?PositronicRay said:

My 5 week old grandchild can't get to see a specialist he needs to see and my 85 yo MIL, in the late stages of vascular dementia, has a GP who refuses to come out to see her but we've the resources to tend to this lot.

And yet on any of the news channels nobody ever seems to be allowed to actually ask this question.Budflicker said:

A friend has just had her 3rd cancellation at hospital (cataracts) to see if she qualifies for op. If she falls over it might get speeded up. Her sight is deteriorating fast, a call to her optician today said she'd done all she can. The hospital appointment is the next step. The silly thing is it's all about money we are told, and when I went round to see her this afternoon, TWO 'cancellation' letters arrived, one in normal print and one in large and of course sent separately! (I suppose some clever dick realised 'oh, the lady might not be able to read a normal size letter?' Money, eh? Easy to waste. My 5 week old grandchild can't get to see a specialist he needs to see and my 85 yo MIL, in the late stages of vascular dementia, has a GP who refuses to come out to see her but we've the resources to tend to this lot.
I'm currently watching 'No Place to Call Home' on BBC 2 a documentary showing a new generation desperately looking in vain for a place to call home. Contains upsetting scenes.
Turned over and I felt so much better as I noted the place the 'children' from Calais are heading for in the tiny village of Torrington in Devon. Daily Mirror editor just said on Sky News the place isn't as grande as it seems, appearances can be very deceptive.
Really? I just had a look online.
Not grande?
A 17th century manor house, yeah what a squalid place to send migrant

They're getting basic medical assessments, which can probably be carried out by a nurse practitioner, like those who staff the walk in centres in many towns. They're not seeing specialists like those you mention, so won't be affecting those waiting times. Probably seeing extra staff hired directly by the immigration service rather than using local services.
According to Radio 4 this evening, the new arrivals are only going to be staying there for a short time while permanent places are found. I'm guessing they've used that place as it'll have been unoccupied - it's a PGL children's activity holiday centre... Not something used much in late autumn.
It was suggested this evening that the British government didn't get much warning at all that the camp was going this week, so the assessment, collection & relocation of these migrants wasnt planned particularly well.

with all due respect SFW? They knew it was going to be demolished - it's been talked about for quite some time now, surely it's not beyond wit or reason to get things sorted out in advance?irocfan said:

As I understand it, the French authorities only started allowing official access for assessments etc 7 days ago, so wit or reason (or lack thereof) has little to do with itBudflicker said:

Peter Hitchens once attempted it but was shouted down by that appalling anti-White immigrant agitator Yasmin Alibhai-Brownhttps://youtu.be/LRc0KGRjfec
No-one seems to ask the question that these are the fittest of the fit who made the journey from whatever st hole they left and managed to get the cash to pay the traffickers (probably from their savings accounts and certainly not obtained from criminal acts).
The truly vulnerable woman and children are probably still living in bomb-blasted rubble.
