Things that fascinate me: The officials and ministers at the Home office are, presumably, adult. Or at least outside the age limits they set for the beneficiaries of this particular largesse*. They must see that the individuals are definitely neither children nor vulnerable. Apart from the fact that these children look older they we're told they are, I'm not sure if they were actually ~16 it would really be much better. I doubt a 16 year old from Somalia with Somalian values that has made his way across a continent (and perhaps the Med) is in any way comparable to a 16 year old from say Farnborough. Would dropping a British teenager into down-town Shenzhen (China) do him or Shenzhen any good?

You can't be deployed anywhere by the Army until you're 18. Under 18s even have to get parental permission for leave addresses.
