Looks fake to me! (I didn't notice at first).

There are blurred edges around the train as it passes through the frame and also one of the items that the drunk drops on the track mysteriously disappears as the worker pushes him over the rails.

Rewatching it, I noticed the train vanishes at 0:33

Stroll on!

I'm glad the film ends before they kick the st out of him.

Truly, give that man a medal.

I think an Oscar is more fitting.

The train appears to perturb the foliage as it passes - particularly on the left edge of the frame.

Watching it again the train does look a bit fake. I wonder what actually happened given everyone seem to take cover?

I may be a typically cynical Brit, but the first thing I thought was:

a) I bet that bicycle is stolen
b) will the rail worker will be sanctioned for breaking safety regulations

You can imagine the shouts of the second rail worker:

"Dave! DAVE! Foo gawds sake, don't do it; come back - you haven't filled out the Risk Assesment!!!"

b). No. In situations like this regulations can be 'suspended' to save the life of another.

I've seen some things after years on and about the railway but this ranks up there with the bravest.

Nothing they were acting (poorly)....because it was fake.

Definitely looks fake. Similar things have happened though. Wouldn't be surprised if this was made by the RSSB for training reasons, or perhaps by another company as part of a drama or documentary. Something similar was done with the Southall crash, footage that looked good, served a purpose, but wasn't real.

At the risk of appearing hugely geeky, I think I know where that is. That's an ex-Thameslink class 319 being used on the Watford Junction - St Albans Abbey line. The train is still in old Thameslink colours, but has white London Midland panels stuck over the old branding, which you can see in the claimed rescue video and more clearly Here. Given the angle of the footage, that's been shot from one of the footpath bridges as the line runs through Bricket Wood Common. The track is completely fenced in through there, so there's no way the drunk could have got there unless he'd walked off the platform at either Bricket Wood or Garston station, both of which are at least half a mile from that point.

Looking the claimed rescue, there are some dodgy things going on. The train makes a weird jump as it gets to the "drunk", plus one of the items dropped between the tracks vanishes just as the worker gets to him. Also, the surrounding shrubbery on both sides changes colour quite dramatically as the train passes through. Plus, pausing at 33 seconds, the area around the pantograph is blurred and you can't see anything contacting the overhead line.

It's impressive, but I'm going with faked.

Yes, great lurking smile

I can't believe anyone fell for this. I saw it posted on Facebook this morning and thought it looked dodgy and terribly edited. The train looks completely superimposed.

And why would there be a camera handily recording a random stretch of track?

Complete nonsense.

Quiet clearly the trains fault for not giving him space.

Original thoughts were FAKE. Why is there a camera just pointing up a bit of single line? The edges of the train look blurred/superimposed. The staff are wearing exactly the same clothing under their Hi Viz (actors?), and the 'drunk' looks like he's acting.

But, frame by frame you can see the pantograph on top of the train, and the overhead line flexes slightly upwards when it passes.
The surrounding bushes do waft when the train passes through. And the small white item in the track doesn't disappear, the workers trailing right foot moves it during the dive.

On balance though, gotta be fake.
