The translator shouldn't have been involved, but Rushdie knew exactly what he was doing.

There is the opinion that Islam as a religion is 500+ years behind Christianity and look at the horrors perpetrated in the name of Christ. Islam is probably trying to develop and become more moderate, but thanks to our excursions in the middle east, we're kind of fking it up ourselves.

What a silly question!

The answer is obvious - anybody. Mocking Islam - just don't do it. There is no need. Nobody is impressed or amused although I can't speak for you.

Yes, lets all stay silent on Islam only under a threat of violence. Odd that you don't include all religions, you've just singled the one out as being that little bit more special and made up of sensitive souls. You might have thought you'd play safe and say there was no need to mock anyone's religion, even thought that itself would be wrong.
Your views are quite frightening. I'd say there is the exact opposite and a need to mock Islam to take the obvious pent-up tension out of it, as has successfully happened with the other religions.

Rushdie may well have expected some reaction, but that should not stop him from being able to write a novel for fear of his life.

The use of religion to draw people to wholly secular causes is as old as time.
I have little doubt that those that cause much of the unrest in the name of Islam are not so different from the power mad kings and popes of old that used their positions of influence over churches and priests to promote their wars for personal gain.
It happened in Britain as late as the first world war, and some would argue the second world war as well.

But we digress from our digression...

I do believe (if you really want to know) that ratio between useful/entertaining information and dimwit conspiracy theories doesn't warrant watching them. I'm not the target audience for his little rants.
clearly you're going to use semantics to wriggle out so i'll ask again. I have already listed the points made by the video so you don't have to watch it. Which of those do you agree with and which are nutjob conspiracy theories?

Agreed but it if wants to exist in our "Modern Western Society" it has to learn to abide by our culture / rules / freedoms, we should not change ours to suit their 500 year behind logic. They have a different opinion on women, so we should change our opinion on them as well so as to not cause upset ...

No belief in Sky Fairies is beyond mocking in the 21st century, some Religions are more ridiculous than others and deserve to be mocked.

I in my mid 40's still passionately believe in Father Christmas - if you mock me I will kill you.

No semantics at all. You claimed that I said something that I didn't. That was made up. I quoted my words and your words. No two ways about it.

Not sure how you don't get this, even if everything said in that particular video was true, their general approach to anything is so idiotic that they don't warrant watching any videos made by them. They do have certain demographic as their target audience. I've listed two 'products' that are squarely aimed at people who get info from their website/videos. Where else can you get 'deep cleansing' supplement containing mostly 'nano-distilled water' and Citizen body armor in one place?

Do you watch homeopathic videos to see if they contain anything credible?

At the risk of further digression, while I believe wholly in freedom of speech, it should be remembered by anyone how much they learned the last time someone 'mocked' them. Resentment is the normal result, and little more.

The popular anti-theists accomplished very little over the last two decades with their mockery, aside from convincing those that were already convinced, and held themselves proud as the cheers grew louder through the popular attendance of the 'converted'. More often than not those who wished to hear their own beliefs cleverly confirmed for them by people who were better educated and better spoken.

Frankly the mocking examples, claims of medieval ignorance and the erecting of straw man depictions of Christianity that a 12 year old could see through, were nothing more than childish insult by men who often understood little of what they were speaking.
It was entertaining. I could and have, watched Hitchens especially, for hours but he was unconvincing; even he counted a few as friends amongst the clergy, not many I grant you, but a few.

However, to my point; Rude mocking attacks will only bring anger, as they always have done.

I was asked many years ago by a Muslim friend, who I have long since lost contact with, why Christians tolerated the blasphemies and insults of non Christians. We were after all in a 'Christian country'.
The answer is of course very simple; it is the price to pay for a relatively free and peaceful society. One that allows people of differing faiths, and those of no faith at all, to gather in the same room, sit at the same table, to be friends and to exchange experiences and ideas.

I think you already know this.

Muslims take their religion very seriously. This is what folk do not grasp. We're living in a time when Islam is portrayed as the root cause of evil and some of them are, unsurprisingly, fighting back.

If these idiots were stupid enough to deliberately inflame a situation where a fanatically followed religion is involved, it's not really surprising.

Not publishing the Danish crap was the right thing to do. Leave these people and their sacred region alone FFS.
Pathetic.

Very serious. Idiots like you fill delusional left wing politics who would happily roll over in the way you described with no regard to anyone else. It's very sad you can't / won't defend your frightening ideas.

reductio ad absurdum.

One should practice what one preaches, though- if wanting others to house/feed/ care for immigrants then they should set an example.

Some dumb questions...

1/ Why are we not training healthy adult male Syrian refugees in basic army training -and shipping them back so they can take back their country back? I do recall my grandfather and uncle having to do their bit.
In fact... I would rather they fought for their country than our armed forces have to.

2/ Very few affluent Muslim countries in the region are giving a st and taking them in. Very Christian of them.

3/ If I were a people trafficker.... I would be topping up my pension pot in kiddie transportation to a soft touch country.
The more they say... "we need to take in more.." the happier I would be.

Er, I voted Tory. No time for left wing idiots, or ultra right wing morons like you either. The EDL should cater for your xenophobic fears nicely however - give 'em a call! :-)

Why though? Why do some hold a sneering desire to rob some folk of their hope? I'm agnostic myself and as such, far from convinced of the existence of God. That doesn't mean that some part of me doesn't hope there might be a benevolent, forgiving God though. I know some cite the thousands of killings that have been committed in the name of religion but, were all religion to cease to be tomorrow, man would still kill one another. It's something we appear driven to do.

Extremist or terrorist are not Muslim though. They are no more representative of being Muslim than the KKK are of being Christians. There are many Muslims who live peaceful lives as part of our society. There are Muslim soldiers serving in our armed forces. It won't be enough though. The hate, suspicion and division run too deep.

Said Sky Fairy has been instrumental in dictating that 30+ Million be smitten in his name in just 1 book.
Evidence: Start with the Old Testament - and keep your own "God body bag count."
She/ He/ It... is deranged beyond measure.

But hey... God loves YOU.

Edit:
Let's celebrate by smashing the skulls of the children of our enemies against some bloody big rocks.
Religion is awesome!!!

You all know the words... join in and imagine Boney M singing it with you.....

1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
4 How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?
5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
