I wouldn't count on it. In 1975 people voted to stay in it. I, a Leaver, wasn't even born.

Many voters then had fought in WW1 and you'd only have to be 50 or so to have fought in WW2.

You'd have to be 60 now to have even voted in 1975.

A much more modern electorate has just voted to leave than the one that voted to stay.

People who were young and forward looking and voted to Remain in 1975 are old and jaded and voted Leave in 2016.

Either attitudes have changed away from the way you want or experience of the EU has made people dislike it.

I can immediately find any figures but I would also bet that a far higher proportion of the 2016 electorate have degrees and have travelled abroad, both in Europe and beyond, than in 1975. And a far higher proportion have foreign friends, neighbours and family than was the case then.

The notion that some isolated and ignorant rump of neo imperialists explain the vote to Leave is a last ditch exercise in extreme wishful thinking for people who wish to remain in at any cost.

He clamoured and clamoured for debate on immigration. When I gave it to him and exposed his and others complete lack of knowledge about it, he disappeared.

The same thing happened when we debated racism.

Empty vessels make the most noise I guess.
That's just the wind whistling between his ears.

Wouldn't the solution to any demand for any large sum of money to simply say Yes, just show us the accounting books to prove it?

I wouldn't count on it.
Nor would I.

Pipe dreams are being pushed further and futher back in time.

'Cameron will succeed in negotiations'

'The vote will be to Remain'

'There will be a re-run'

'Article 50 won't be invoked'

'The UK will not leave'

'The UK will rejoin'

At outrage already being voiced-how fking dare the UK link a deal with military/intelligence- they expect it for free to 'jointly combat terror'. Great use of the word terror when a large part of the intelligence has nothing to do with terror.

May needs to play more hardball not less.

It's only negotiations, not the deal, The deal follows from negotiations.

Therefore more hardball will do nicely.

The German car industry may well whisper in Merkel's ear, assuming they haven't shouted already.

Me too, though would imagine anyone currently buying French cars would probably breathe a sigh of relief and think "TFFT, shot of them too." hehe

I would suggest that closing it would allow the thread to drop down the order. Certain posters input needs to be readily available for reference, either way.

I think there is ample scope and plenty of time for Brexit to be scuppered and I say that as a leave supporter.

Brexit could work but we need all the UK to be pulling on the same rope at the same time. Alas, this will simply not be the case especially as we have many of our own team mates dragging their heels or secretly pulling for the other side. I fear that by the time we could realistically get over the line we would discover that all our team have been substituted and the line has been redrawn.

That looks more about the Ts and Cs of Brexit at the moment, not about Brexit or no Brexit.

A50 is "a historic moment from which there is no turning back".

Close the thread?

Really want to block out any news that might be inconvenient.

This covers a few points.
