Supreme Court hearing has started.

Pretty much first off the bat Lord Neuberger explained that the justices had invited all the parties to say whether they wished any of the justices to stand down and not hear the case, given the press reports of potential EU sympathies.

No party - the Govt included - has objected to any justice hearing the appeal.

I was there so does this count as meeting a "so called racist" person that led a racist party ?

Please tell me how it compares with what the other parties say about racism....Oz gets a mention wink

eta Don't suppose many of the detractors / accusers will actually watch it all.
That does not answer my question.
I am not playing the "person x is/isn't a racist" game, I am asking if anyone knows / has met a racist who considered themself a racist.

re Derek's post, I do know someone who finds the idea of homosexualty disagreeable and "wrong", although he disapproves strongly of discrimination based on sexual preferences - in his words "this probably makes me homophobic".
In which case my answer is NO I do not know or have knowingly met anyone that considers themselves racist and FYI I know many members of UKIP.... you can also rest assured that I would be the 1st to challenge them if they were racist in my presence.

What did you think of the video btw?

eta I forgot......when selling a house about 6 yrs ago the neighbour (of Asian descent)...offered to pay an extra £5k over and above any offer we received from a potential purchaser, that he seen viewing, from a similar but slightly different, Asian descent. so YES I have met someone that made no secret about being a racist....but must confess I did not feel able to challenge him on this.

Some interesting and well made points here IMO:

"Dame Louise Casey accused public bodies of ignoring or condoning divisive or harmful religious practices for fear of being called racist."

Indeed - I've already posted that link. I doubt anyone will want to comment on it though.

Not at all: I was trying to get your words out of your mouth. I asked you a simple and direct question. Which you chose not to answer.

Hence "nice swerve".

It's really that simple.

I did answer it - what are you banging on about? I asked elysium a question which I asked because I was wondering what his experience had been. Nothing more, nothing less. It's really that simple.

Not everyone has a hidden agenda behind their questions and comments you know.

You're making a meal of this. The question is in bold above.

The premise was:

Do you think any immigrants hold racist views towards British people?
So why does it matter to anyone or anything if some immigrants hold racist views towards British people (or, for that matter, what a particular poster's experience has been on that score)? That's the question for you, which as far as I can see you've declined to address. If you don't want to, fine, say so. But don't claim that you have when you haven't.

Not sure why you think that?

I agree with her. A lack of understanding of racism has led the majority to stop legitimate debate in case it causes offence.

Trevor Phillips has tried to talk about this, as did Jack Straw some years ago when he talked about asking a Muslim women to remove her veil in his surgery. We should be open about what racism is and brave enough to talk about big issues.

You seem to suggest I shouldn't have asked the question. Like i said, I was just wondering. Nothing more, nothing less. Sorry if it caused you any offence

No, I haven't suggested that at all. But your deflection is now becoming a bit obvious, don't you think?

I meant some less sensible posters may dismiss it and possibly consider it racism in itself.

A common sense approach is helpful which seems to be advocated in her message. I see a lot of things stifled on here by shouts of racism which becomes a bit tedious.

Most of us agreed, 30-40 years ago, that racism isn't a good thing.

The fact that you seem to think that the origin of the racism is important is a bit odd.
