I do share some of your views on bureaucracy and control over individual countries, but so far the EU has proven to work. We haven't had any major conflicts on the continent for nearly 80 years now while keeping Russia under control.

Sure, there's room for some reforms, but at the moment Britain wants to have the cake and eat it. It won't work.
Proved to work at what? Bankrupting southern European states and creating a youth unemployment epidemic there that will have social consequences for the next 50 years?
Are you suggesting that the reason why we have not had war in Europe is because of the EU? Nothing to do with NATO?

Are you suggesting that the reason Russia stepped back from the cold war is because of the EU? - Actually, in what way is the EU "Keeping Russia under control"? Are you not aware of the existence of the USA, NATO, Reagan/Gorbachev?
Didn't Russia just annex part of the Ukraine too ??
With the EU playing a major part in triggering this sad state of affairs.

Old fart who thinks you still have a strong empire you are?
46 (meets my definition of old, derek may disagree wink ) who thinks the uk needs a good kick up the arse and a resetting of priorities. i am of the love europe , hate eu persuasion and think individual european countries could be in a far better position out of the most corrupt bureaucracy the west has ever seen.

i have a major problem with politicians willing to write of an entire generation of european kids just to try and maintain what is nothing more than a badly managed vanity project .

Do we really have to go through all of this st again?

Brexit apparently means "Brexit".

Who'd a thunk it?
The big news is that we now have an idea of what our Govt thinks Brexit means beyond that frustrating sound bite.

I'm not particularly pleased with the direction that's May has set out, but at this point I think clarity is hugely valuable. At least we now have some idea of the Govts desired outcome and can plan accordingly.

There are going to be some big losers here and some market turbulence, but I think it would have been much worse if we had triggered article 50 without a published plan. As it stands our negotiating position with the EU is now far stronger than it was, which is again a good thing.

The next milestone is the Supreme Court verdict. I think May knows what this is already!

Little anecdote.

Our 4 yr old had a temper tantrum in Asda...........laid on the floor, stamping feet and making high pitch whingeing noises............Didn't last long once grandad laid beside her and did same.... Nanny spent the rest of the shopping trip 2 aisles away from us both biggrin

They are now no more than laughable parodies of themselves and what they represent.

Almost all of the doom and gloom predictions they have chanted over the course of this thread have failed to materialise. Indeed, in some cases, the polar opposite of what they predicted has happened.

Turkeys voting for Christmas?

What exactly has Britain got to offer in the Worldwide trade deals? Cars? Nope, we EU companies will move factories to Romania or Poland. Heavy industry? Nope, China does it cheaper. High-tech? Not really. Science? Half of it relies on cooperation with EU scientists and students.

Overcooked soggy chips exported to Spain? wink
millenial are we ? not really understand how this self governance works ? watch and learn smile

Let's not forget a genocide on the EU's border, nor the fact that we have the most efficient manufacturing plants in the world.

Of course, when Kim Jong posits a scenario of negotiations including "27 enormous economies (of which only one is bigger than ours), manufacturing nations (again, only one bigger than us)" then we can fairly quickly see he hadn't got a clue...

Like Nissan I would choose the world (the Nissan factory in the UK exports all over the world, not just the EU)

According to recent Nissan announcements it's going to be building more cars here...
As long as the government keeps throwing tax money at them. Hardly a good deal.
Citation needed...

Or you could point to a single manufacturing plant that averages above 98% efficiency. Other than Nissan Sunderland.

Good luck with both of those. You do realise that NS is so efficient they export to Japan?

I still have no idea why people thought we'd stay in the single market.

Mind you, Jimboka is still adamant we won't be leaving banghead
