It worries me to see the military card played so prominently in the letter. Is that really their top trump? If it is we're in trouble. Don't get me wrong, we're good at mil and intel stuff, but five eyes ain't much use to eyes six+ is it? I expect the EU will be pretty "meh" about it.
Yeah, because that's how intel works. More countries, more intel.

fk me.
You know what I mean. Or you might. Maybe not.

It is naive to assume or mil card is very strong in these negotiations.

Try and spell out why I'm wrong. It'll be entertaining.

Interesting that even Farage today said we should unconditionally offer all EU citizens in the U.K. the right to stay without anything changing.

He said this would show us early as 'the good guys'.

I tend to agree but think it'll get a bit ugly before things are up.

Well enough naive brexiteers couldn't see it. I'd agree its predictable, but many were not bright enough to see it coming - many banged on about how much BMW needed tariff free access etc. for months. These threads were littered with it.

Sadly for the UK the list of naive "BMW need us" muppets included Mr D Davis, on BBC QT no less.
Let me try your Nostradamus outfit for how this might be spun by Frau Merkel (if she's still around)...

A weakened Germany is not good for the EU. Ergo ensuring Germany is not weakened is putting the EU first. Not allowing the German auto industry to be bummed up the AC Schnitzer is part of ensuring Germany is not weakened. So yeah everyone, we've done a deal on that bit (in exchange for...) but it's putting the EU first. And anyway look, they don't get the benefit of FoM.

All the language is open and full of escape routes and plausible deniability. It's pre-negotiation bluster.

I thought people on here have been spelling out how you have been wrong since 2007.
Look in the mirror.

You're the entertainment!

its sad to see how bitter the remoaners are and would gladly see this country fall on its backside just so they could say " I told you I was right". Even now as the reality of us leaving hits they are still in denial.

Is the EU response letter anywhere other than the Guardian, not found it on the BBC?

Let me turn this arround a bit....

How is Europe's intel/mil going to improve with us telling them to do one ?
How is Europe's business going to improve by imposing tariffs on us ?

No one is in denial. But if the country does fall on its backside, it'll be interesting to see how people try to spin it.
I think we will be fine, but if we're less than, we at least know where to point the fingers wink

You definitely have No idea!

I'll wait and see where it goes. They are negotiations. Guessing is a waste of time.

Bottom line is we're leaving that gravy train in Brussels, the 'EU'.

Not 'Europe' as so many idiots still keep saying.
I heard it again today. Is it to scare the dumb?

But on some points we are right.

Its not too late for the penny to drop.

No passporting, electric mini made in Germany for the greater good of the EU.

Day 1 and the hits keep coming.

Your favourite publication seems to have done a pretty good job of that previously.

Intelligence-gathering in Europe is comparable to the military situation. The only military force that really matters is the US-led Nato alliance. There is as yet no sign of a EU army.

It is the same in the intelligence world. The alliance that matters is “Five Eyes”, the most powerful intelligence-gathering alliance in the world: the US, the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. It dwarves even China and Russia.

Other European countries rely on the US and the UK sharing at least some of the information and data. If the UK was to leave the EU, other European countries would continue to seek access to at least some of that intelligence.

That's Mays letter.

The response from the EU is separate.

Of course I know what you meant. You meant six+ countries is more than five and therefore five "ain't much use".

It's there in black and white for everyone to read.

Which they can through the US etc.

Do some think Germany / France and US have no relationship? And five eyes means what it says on the tin. But if necessary some tit bits will be thrown. That won't change.

The US are now looking to Germany for their EU links as we've done a cowardly retreat.

No.

Five eyes means it is not shared wider routinely outside the five. As it says on the tin.

Sure some info is shared when it suits five eyes. But US can do that, UK not special in that respect.

But I'm sure you understand that.
