All that talk of infrastructure spending and jobs for all..... all sounds rather leftish considering he is supposed to be a Republican?
He's a republican because it got him on the ticket. The speech he made today isn't out of line with his previous speeches, his plan has always been to spend a lot of money.
And when Congress and the Senate won't let him it'll all be their fault and he'll spend 4 years playing golf...

America, fk yeah.... lick my arse and suck on my balls...

Blimey, they must really hate Clinton!
Beaten by Trump, and by quite a margin.

The Americans have voted against the established political class. Clinton threw everything at it, she had £500 million dollars war chest and celebrity endorsments etc and they saw what was becoming was political dynasty's, either a Bush or a Clinton.

Like Brexit, too many saw this as their chance to have a say against those who seek power for powers sakes.

My Facebook has exploded with frothy mouthed snowflakes. Its hilarious and pretty much a repeat of the Brexit moaning.
Yeah, I find it really odd, I doubt a lot of these people could name three things Obama did of any consequence.

It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, really happens.

It's pretty strange. He's talked about the same stuff (minus the frothing nonsense) for years in fairness. Maybe this is the new face of American Republicanism that the GOP needed. The old one wasn't going anywhere.

Do you think he really has any strong opinion on abortion?

He's been mostly pro LGBT - when he won the Republican nomination he made a point of getting the audience to applause for that community and then went on to thank the audience for doing so and how it made him so happy.

Do you reckon he reads his bible at night? Or owns one?

Infrastructure spending is one of those few areas along with education where government spending has a huge multiplier effect.

Maybe the act he put on throughout this was just that? Or maybe he'll be a complete disaster.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.
No I don't think he really cares about abortion or religious issues either way. I happen to think a lot of investment in certain areas would be a good thing but it is just strange to hear it out of his mouth. What he is arguing for in terms of infrastructure and education could just as easily come out of Corbyn's mouth.

Shame he has all the racist/sexist baggage.

But it is about time the "establishment" woke up to the fact there are an awful lot of very pissed off people all over the West. The economic system is just not working for so many people... hence Brexit and now this. This result just goes to show people will no longer put up with being told what to think... Clinton had almost everything stacked in her favour but still failed miserably.

This is a vote for change however mental it appears.

Given that we live in a world of reality tv these days - I would genuinely pay money to see the moment when she realised it had all gone horribly wrong and that self serving smug grin she's had on her face for the last few days was wiped off.

(I'm not saying that it's good he won - God help America (and my pension fund) - but not convinced she really would have been much better).

Yep. Brexit was no anomaly. There's a huge change underway in Western democracies.

No I will keep them for comedy value and differing opinions, as I told one of my friends who voted Remain when she expressed utter shock at the result, that perhaps her RLF and social media bubble only contained Remain voters hence the shock as she only ever heard one opinion.

For me the interesting thing will be how this changes global politics over the long term.

Trump seems to be a an arrogant, alpha male fool BUT the principle of the people voting against the dynastic political establishment is a very interesting development.

Hopefully next time round a genuinely visionary, fiercely intelligent and fundamentally good man / woman will become President and actually set about leading the country towards something better. This as opposed to having a bunch of elitist power hungry and most likely crooked career politicians fighting for their own interested and those of their shadowy controlling puppet masters.

I do genuinely worry about the short term aftermath though.

I watched Mr Smith goes to Washington last night - maybe one day!

Why are people still claiming brexit was a protest vote,? I voted to leave the EU as simple as that.

I bet his Mexico wall ends up as "I told them to do it, they said it wasn't possible, not my fault, blame the faceless Washington men."

Then he'll get bored and give up after 4 years.

Why has Hillary not been on screen to concede defeat and congratulate Trump.

I think his secret service team will need to be on game as I am sure the American loonies who don't agree with the result will be going for their guns, best he avoids open topped cars.

As many have said interesting times ahead,

It was both. A huge aspect was disenchantment with the perceived "political elite".

That's exactly what we are seeing in the US too - and all across the traditional Western Democracies. As Trump has just said in his acceptance speech - it's not traditional politics, it's a movement.

Where is The Clintbot? To send out her campaign chief to accept defeat was ungracious at the very least.

Maybe her batteries have finally run out?
