hehe that's A1.

We get this too over the puddle (not the pond).

GAA or a Rugby match, the man on the gate gets 30% of what ever he can extract from cars coming in, I assume the club gets a few quid too, Happy to pay it.

Churchy stuff, no f**king way am I paying a surcharge to sit bored out of my brain for a few hours to ensure the slippery dodgy priest fella isn't targeting my very cute and likable kid.

(It's documented here on PH) Last Christmas, I just sat quietly thinking WTF? This year I think when everyone gets on their knees to pray, I think I might stand up.

I don't have kids, but if I did I'd be finding ways to dodge the play altogether.

"The Lord wants everyone to come forward and put a Dollar in the box."

If they asked for a voluntary contribution I'm sure the average would be substantially more generous.

Bah bloody humbug to those that wouldn't pay! Miserable po-faced tts!
However, the suggestion that voluntary payment afterwards could generate better takings than a compulsory up-front cost is good. I'd hope the generous ones more than make up for the tightwads!

We were asked to donate £5 to attend and watch our son. So £10 for 2. Once a year. Even if you are on MW and/or benefits, I can't see an issue. Some people simply shouldn't have kids.
Can't you really see the problem with you paying to witness your child being indoctrinated into a cult?

I gladly pay to get access, for one reason, so I can witness the ceremony in order to ensure my son is not indoctrinated into their cult. I pay because I want to be able to listen to the rubbish that is being pumped down my child's throat. Later on, we can sit and discuss it and invariably, we ridicule just about every thing that he has just been subjected to in the name of God/Jesus.

It's all utter bks [Christianity], and you owe your kids the opportunity to think for themselves and then discus their reasoning and not just accept what the Priest says.

I'm very much Tibetan Buddhist orientated in my understanding of life, and funnily enough I was never charged a penny to go listen to a 'preacher'.

I would see the problem if I believed that I'm 'witnessing my child being indoctrinated into a cult'.
Like any other normal person, I see it as kids having a play and enjoying themselves. We are even going to get him, shock horror, Christmas presents and pretend that they were left by fat old bloke in a funny red suit.
The chances of him being indoctrinated there are pretty much the same as chance of him being indoctrinated at his aikido or piano class.

That is rather trusting to luck. Not a good plan.

Churches are full (ok, thankfully, churches are not full) of people who could not work it out. Who could not break their early programming.

Let's prefix this with I wouldn't want my child involved in a nativity play to start with, but let's continue.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worc...

Outrage that a school is asking parents to pay £1 (yes a massive £1) each to see their children perform in a nativity play.

I understand that some people are not as well as off as others, but really, £1 and people moan about it? Verbal abuse at teachers just shows what kind of idiots these parents must be!

Obviously they are happy for their child to attend the school so paying £1 to support it is nothing surely?

What's the PH verdict?
Would you be ok if it was purely a drama and not a nativity - need some clarity on that.

It's not indoctrination, it's a sweet tradition that this 'Christian' country does once a year that's good for kids education; following instructions, being on a stage, bad singing etc.

I am an atheist, but I had a lump in my throat watching my 3 year old daughter.

If there is a good bit of religion, then this is it.

My wife lets me go to the pub afterwards as a reward

A £1 to see them actually in something is a bargain. Seems like one day a week every week is 'dress your child up in a costume for something day' at my daughters school and it's a £1 for the privilege. Tomorrow is fairy tale or superhero character costume in aid of Children in Need (wasn't that on weeks ago?) which was sprung upon the parents at 3.30pm this afternoon by the teacher whilst waiting in the playground waiting for the kids to be released.

Every year we have to go to the kids bb display. At least 2 hours of mind numbing boredom. Up until this year it was a couple of quid to get in, this year there was no charge but you were asked to make a donation as you left. Judging by the amount of paper money in the bucket they made a lot more than usual.
Far better way of doing things.

You utter bunch of miserable bds. Too tight to pay a quid to see your kid singing their little heart out or dressed up on stage? "indoctrinated"?

You should count yourself lucky, I would pay any amount to see my daughter's Christmas play, unfortunately her nursery has decided in the interests of H&S that only one parent can attend cry

All because they played a snowflake in a nativity play?
