New Fivers contain animal fat...

I think the BoE's response crosses the line that separates "respecting sincerely held beliefs" from "pandering to lunatics". If I were in charge I'd print a special run of £100 notes on calfskin vellum just for trolling purposes.I think it's all a bit fecking stupid, in truth - and I'm a vegetarian. Mrs.T66's FB is full of this type of st. These people don't realise that they have a negative impact on more important vegan/vegetarian issues, such as animal welfare/environmental concerns.

not sure how accurate it is but seems plausible. Mountain. Mole hill.
EDIT: Oo I see it has (page 5). Again not sure on the accuracy but having read it, it seems reasonable and I checked their maths so at least the numbers they show work out from the assumptions made.

Pretty poor show TBH
Fair play if you choose to avoid animal products, even an idiot would have realised it was a dumbass idea to use animal products in notes..
Do you think the idea to include animal products was deliberate, just to ps off the veggie crowd?Fair play if you choose to avoid animal products, even an idiot would have realised it was a dumbass idea to use animal products in notes..
OR
Do you think it was decided during the months/years of R&D and probably millions spent, that this ingredient is essential for the product to work correctly.
I've said this elsewhere, but almost everything you come into contact on a daily basis has some form of animal product in it. Your car, your mobile phone, your Debit/Credit cards.
Vegans need to either accept that the animal products are used where no other artificial or plant-based version exists or is practical (either from a cost or application point of view), -OR- they give up everything that includes animal products until such time a vegan-friendly alternative is available.
Unfortunately they 'choose' to compromise only in areas that would adversely affect them.
"I refuse to use anything that contains animal products because of my ethical stance (unless by not using said product it reduces my quality of life!)"
Veggies, Vegans and various religionists have been carping on and on about how it "affects" them (it doesn't, actually) and how they have had their freedom to choose not to use animal products violated.
Well, have they actually considered everyone else's freedoms? It doesn't seem that they have.
They want to violate my freedoms and rights; my right to have the essential things that I have no choice about using in my life made in and provided to me by the most efficient and cost effective means which happen to be currently legal. The most efficient and cost effective means of producing plastic fivers is by using Tallow (if it weren't then they would use something else) and to insist that it is changed to something less cost effective and efficient is a violation of my rights and freedoms.
Veggie's, Vegans and religionists do not have a right to have their wishes adhered to simply because they are in some minority group. They cannot simply demand to have something changed because it doesn't suit their particular outlook. fk them!

I wonder how many other countries with plastic notes use the same, they have had them in the IOM for yonks and Australia, I am sure there are many more.
A veggie friend of mine first brought the Change petition to my attention and was very vocal about it until I point out that he lives in NZ and they've had notes make out of the same material since 1999.I did chuckle when I read your comment..........
