FFS!
You couldn't make it up.
Who gives a flying f**k?
It's a £5 note not a bloody sandwich!

Do people genuinely get uptight about this sort of thing?laugh

I read an article somewhere that being veggie is just as, if not more, harmful to the planet than being omnivore. Would love to see reactions to that.

I suspect they quite deliberately avoided pork tallow as there'd be riots. The bank would be declared "racist" and the government would no doubt offer counselling and compensayshun to all the poor traumatised people whose human rights had been affected.

Here's mine, I don't eat meat because I don't like meat. Whether or not it's more or less harmful to the planet is of no consequence smile

What Vegans?

yes I agree
I dunno, I mean some grass fed animals taste better, surely a grass fed vegan would be the same, there is of course, only one way to find out... PH Cooking Competition!

Not found anywhere that states the origin of the tallow, does anyone know what animal it is sourced from?

Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, processed from suet. It is solid at room temperature. Wikipedia

BBC Cumbria said:
'Only a trace' of tallow in new fiver, says Bank

The Bank of England's been responding to complaints about the use of tallow, an animal fat derivative, in the new "plastic" fivers made at Innovia in Wigton.

A spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that the polymer pellet from which the base substrate is made contains a trace of a substance known as tallow.

"Tallow is derived from animal fats (suet) and is a substance that is also widely used in the manufacture of candles and soap."

Doug Maw, from Keswick, has started a petition against the use of tallow, saying it is unacceptable to a growing proportion of the population who are vegan, or eat a plant-based diet.
